- JOB SUMMARY
- Responsible for the oversight and coordination of patient care, including clinical and operational activities, personnel, strategic planning and fiscal activities for Perfusion Services. Develops and maintains care delivery systems and a team to meet patient care needs 24 hours a day across. Represents the interests of Perfusion Services on clinical and operational committees. Functions with the policies and procedures of KDHS and within the legal framework of the state.
- DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:
- Manages and directs a team of Cardiothoracic Perfusionists in the delivery of care
- Analyzes daily case loads and assigns staff appropriately
- Acts as liaison with surgical, medical and clinical staff
- Establishes long- and short-term goals for the perfusion department
- Ensures compliance with applicable rules and regulations related to perfusion techniques and service
- Supervises and trains members of the perfusion team in newer techniques and emergency procedures
- Develops and implements quality guidelines, monitors adherence and corrects deficiencies
- With the advice of the attending surgeon, schedules and prepares patients for surgical procedures and manages the care of patients with cardiac problems requiring open-heart surgery
- Maintains physiological integrity of patient while on by-pass, i.e., hemodynamics, fluid, and electrolyte balance
- Monitors and records all parameters during by-pass to include: flow rates, perfusion pressure, blood gasses, electrolytes, urinary output and body temperature
- Maintains all equipment used for extracorporeal circulation and related support devices
- Evaluates new procedures and equipment to maintain full clinical performance and determines cost effectiveness and feasibility of use
- Reports malfunctioning or defective equipment and arranges for maintenance and repair
- Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and equipment
- Keeps records on open-heart cases and other activities and prepares required reports
- Delegates appropriate responsibilities to develop management and teaching potential of each team member
- Uses computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments
- May perform other duties, as needed
- EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum requirement:
- Completion of an accredited perfusion training program.
- Bachelor of Science degree if candidate has significant Chief or leadership experience at like organization.
- Preferred qualifications:
- Five (5) years' experience as a Perfusionist.
- Master's degree
- Completion of UKKD LEAD Academy.

- Constantly works near moving mechanical parts
- Constantly exposed toblood and/or body fluids andinfection.
- Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
- Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting).
- Frequently required to walk and move about.
- Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.
- Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
- Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.
- Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
- Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
- Occasionally required to position self in order to meet patient needs.
