We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Chief Physicist to join our Radiation Oncology team. This role offers a rewarding, challenging, and inspiring opportunity to make a significant impact on patient care and treatment outcomes.

Medical physicists play a crucial role in ensuring the accurate treatment of patients by collaborating with Radiation Oncology physicians to develop and implement radiation treatment plans. They ensure the proper functioning of Linear Accelerators on a daily basis and work towards improving equipment and treatments for cancer patients. By integrating advanced technology and understanding the biological functions of the body, medical physicists strive to discover new treatments and enhance existing ones.

Key Responsibilities of the Chief Physicist
  • Lead the Physics and Dosimetry Team: Ensure that all departmental processes are being followed by the staff.
  • Collaborate with the Director: Work with the Director on new and improving processes in the department to ensure patient safety and best practices.
  • Delegate and Oversee Projects: Ensure that departmental projects and improvements are being completed.
  • Commission New Technologies: Commission new Linear Accelerators, special treatment machines, and surgical procedures for clinical use.
  • Annual Reporting: Prepare annual reports required for DHEC and ACR accreditation.
  • Strategic Planning: Advise on strategic planning for Radiation Oncology to ensure future readiness.
  • Support Strategic Initiatives: Collaborate on other strategic initiatives as needed and assigned by the Director of Radiation Oncology.

Minimum Requirements

Education:
  • MS in Medical Physics or related Physics Field

Experience:
  • Completion of residency program or 1-year clinical work
  • 3 years of clinical practice

License/Registration/Certifications:
  • ABR certification
  • Continuing Education as required by the AAPM
  • Continuing Education as required by the ABMP
  • Member of AAMD

Preferred Requirements

Preferred Education:
  • Doctorate in Medical Physics or related Physics Field

Preferred Experience:
  • 5 years of clinical practice

Preferred License/Registration/Certifications:
  • ABMP certification

Core Job Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Physics and Dosimetry Team, ensuring adherence to departmental processes.
  • Collaborate with the Director to implement new and improved departmental processes, prioritizing patient safety and best practices.
  • Delegate tasks and oversee the completion of departmental projects and improvements.
  • Work closely with Radiation Oncology physicians to develop and refine treatment plans.
  • Maintain resilience and efficiency under the demands of an active role, including long hours of standing, walking, stooping, bending, and sitting.
  • Assist with lifting or moving patients and equipment as needed.
  • Communicate fluently in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination, and adequate vision for operating high-tech equipment.
  • Respond calmly and efficiently in crisis situations.
  • Lead and direct the work of others to ensure organization and accuracy in all areas.
  • Collaborate effectively as a team member with peers, departmental staff, and other hospital staff.
  • Work independently and be available on-call after hours as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Radiation Oncology.
