WHAT WE DO:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
As part of our Senior Management Team, under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Student Services Officer will lead the school's efforts in designing, developing, and implementing our (1) RTI programming, (2) supervise Special Education compliance (SPED) and Multilingual Learner (MLL) services, (3) Restorative practices, discipline and safety (4) college and advisory program services and (5) in collaboration with other members of our Senior Management Team, lead our professional development and instructional coaching program, (6) support the strategic growth of a positive school culture, (7) supervising the school's AVID program to establish AVID practices in AVID classrooms and school-wide, (8) supervise elective classes (gym, art, dance, and music), (9) supervise school guidance department to ensure all students are on track for graduation, (10) supervise attendance practices to ensure that data is impeccable and that student attendance in incentivised in the most positive way possible, (11) manage the enrollment and recruitment of students to ensure we always have the approved number of students enrolled at te school (12) establishing a vibrant college going culture

Special Education and Mutil-Lingual Language Learners
- Direct the Special Education program including co-managing a Director of Special Education and/or a partner consultancy responsible for IEP compliance and Committee on Special Education collaboration
- Supervise the work of Special education and MLL teachers in compliance and RTI
- Establish and support the service delivery model that supports MLL students at NSCHS
- Contact midyear and annual evaluations of the performance of these positions
- Conduct classroom evaluations of SPED and MLL teachers
- Have senior management accountability for the fidelity of Northside's SPED and MLL program
- Coordinate state testing including logistics, test preparation, testing accommodations and modifications for special populations;
- Provide school-wide, SPED & MLL-specific coaching and co-planning in the implementation of curriculum, particularly in Modern Classrooms blended learning instructional approach;
- In collaboration with the Principal-Chief Academic Officer, supervise the special education instructional staff;
- Collaborate with academic deans, individual teachers, and other members of the Senior Management Team; organize professional development around differentiation, data analysis, and data-and driven instruction;
- Contribute to the design of benchmark, unit, and performance assessments, considering alternative assessments and modifications;
- Create and manage a tiered support system for students - within the instructional framework of Modern Classrooms
- In collaboration with the instructional leadership team, conduction universal basic screening of students - with particular focus on incoming 9th grade class; manage the process of crafting the appropriate interventions and at-risk supports for students
- Create and manage a tracking and support system for identified at-risk students on a 6-week cycle
College and Advisory Program Services
- Supervise the work of the Director of College and Advisory, which includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Providing instructional practice oversight (evaluation) and support to the AVID team of teachers
- Supporting the direction of the work of our college counselors
Student Support Services
- Supervise the School Counselor(s), which includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Annual and mid year evaluation of the performance of these positions
- Ensuring all Federal, NYS, and Northside procedures are followed including but not limited to the execution of SPED processes, documentation and case management
- Ensure that all transcripts are up to date and accurate
- Ensure that students are programed for the course needed to keep them on track for the diploma
- Supervise the team of Deans and their work regarding attendance, discipline, and restorative practices which includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Designing and implementing the school's restorative practices system
- Support the evaluation and management of Deans of Students (formerly, Restorative Justice Educators)
Senior Management Team Duties
- Support the management of caregiver/family engagement
- Attend Board of Trustee meetings as scheduled
- Work with the School's building partners to provide a secure place of learning; assist in managing the relationship between school building partners
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited higher education institution
- At least 6+ years of secondary school teaching experience
- At least 2+ years of teaching special education or directing special education
- At least 5+ years of experience working within an urban secondary school environment
- Deep content knowledge and application of restorative justice practice
- Demonstrated experience in achieving student success within a public traditional or charter school
- Demonstrated people management or supervisory experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of Danielson and other instructional frameworks for teaching and evaluation
Preferred:
- Valid NYS Certification in a subject area and/or Special Education
- Bilingual in Spanish & English
- Masters Degree in Teaching, Special Education, or other related field
- Experience with diverse communities
- Knowledge of Restorative Practices
- Knowledge of equity-based/mastery-based grading
- Google Educator Certification Levels 1 & 2
- Experience with ATS, Google Suite, PowerSchool, & AVID
