JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Chief Technology Officer

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

JOB GOAL: To lead the efforts of planning, developing, implementing, evaluating, and maintaining an exemplary technology program for the District

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
        • Bachelor's degree in Technology, Education, or related field
        • Five (5) years of successful experience in a leadership role with progressively increasing roles and responsibilities
        • Extensive expertise in the field of technology; experience with K-12 technology solutions
        • Proven leadership, analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving skills
        • Excellent written and oral communication skills
        • Excellent interpersonal and team-building skills
        • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner
        • Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
        • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal, and local law and the Board may require

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities
  • Provides and demonstrates strategic vision and leadership that fosters an environment of performance and accountability
  • Supervises departmental staff, assigns and delegates tasks, provides direction and training, resolves work problems, and communicates job expectations while emphasizing the highest level of customer service
  • Oversees District-wide technology systems including telephony, network infrastructure, computer and device operation, user support, web services, wireless, and security systems while promoting the delivery of solutions that support the most effective learning environment
  • Provides excellent leadership, project coordination, and planning in all technology projects
  • Develops and monitors departmental budget, ensuring consistency with District priorities and established financial guidelines
  • Assesses District technology needs and leads the development of strategic, operational, equipment, training, implementation, and planning criteria to meet needs while working within budgetary guidelines
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of K-12 technology standards, industry trends, emerging technologies, and related practices
  • Initiates evaluation of new systems and products to determine appropriateness by examining compatibility, functionality, integration, cost, and benefit to the District
  • Monitors regulatory changes, legal requirements, and technology trends to forecast and make adjustments to District processes and policies to meet the needs of those changes
  • Develops and maintains departmental policies and procedures
  • Continuously seeks funding and resources for program development
  • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships within the District as well as with key community leaders, organizations, vendors, and other stakeholders
  • Develops a strategic security and data integrity plan to guide the operation of the Technology department, ensuring compliance with all applicable guidelines and operating policies
  • Leads the ongoing development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the District Technology Plan in consultation with all stakeholders including administrators, staff, and governance groups
  • Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)
