Tehama County Department of Child Support Services is one of 47 local child support agencies in California. The department manages approximately 2,700 child support cases. Providing customers excellent service is a top priority. Staff are trained professionals ready to assist customers in opening a case, establishing a child support order, determining paternity, modifying their order, and enforcing their order. About the Position:
Under limited supervision, the Child Support Supervisor plans, organizes, and directs a unit of Child Support Specialists and related staff; works with higher level staff to determine staff development needs; and performs related work as required.

Examples of Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Plans, prioritizes, and delegates cases and projects to a team of Child Support Specialists and support staff.
  • Reviews the quantity and quality of work performed by assigned staff on a day-to- day basis.
  • Researches, develops, and conducts group and/or one-on-one training for new and existing staff.
  • Coaches/Counsels employees on work performance issues.
  • Monitors and reviews casework of line staff.

Knowledge of:
  • Basic supervisory principles and practices.
  • Civil and criminal law, and Federal and California laws and regulations pertaining to the establishment and enforcement of child support obligations.

Ability to:
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize the work of others in order to meet critical deadlines on multiple tasks.
  • Assist and train newly assigned staff.
  • Apply specialized Federal child support laws and procedures as they apply to intergovernmental and international cases.

Education, Experience & Licenses
Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

EITHER

One (1) year of full-time experience performing duties comparable to those of a Child Support Specialist III in a state or local government agency;

OR

Two (2) years of full-time experience performing duties comparable to those of a Child Support Specialist II in a state or local government agency.
License & Special Requirements:
  • Requires a valid California Class C driver's license.
  • Due to IRS Publication 1075 Guidelines as established by the Federal Government and required by California Department of Child Support Services, all employees will be subject to a background check at the time of hiring and at least every 5 years.

Driver License Requirement: Some positions in this classification may require possession of a valid California driver's license. Employees who drive on County business to carry out job-related duties must possess a valid California driver's license for the class of vehicle driven and meet automobile insurability requirements of the County. Eligibility for employment for those who do not meet this requirement due to disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the appointing authority.

Examination Information:

Training & Experience (T&E) Examination - Weighted 100%
The Training & Experience Examination is designed to elicit a range of specific information regarding each candidate's knowledge, skill, abilities, and potential to effectively perform the duties relative to the classification. Responses to the questionnaire will be assessed based on the pre-determined rating criteria. All applicants must complete the entire examination to receive a score. To obtain a position on the eligible list, candidates must receive a minimum rating of 70% on the examination.
Tentative T&E Examination Date:

Thursday, February 27, 2025.
*Candidates will have three (3) days to complete the examination. Deadline to complete the T&E is March 3, 2025 by 5pm.
Tentative Interview Date:

Monday, March 10, 2025

*Only the most qualified candidates will be invited to interview.
New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.

*Rates listed in this flyer represent a full-time employee's accrual rate and health insurance premium rate. Part-time employees will have pro-rated accruals and health insurance premium rates based on the number of hours they work.

SALARY:
  • Annual salary step increases based upon satisfactory performance and completion of one year of employment (Step A to E).

HEALTH:
  • Approximately 80% of the premium for medical, dental, and vision plan is paid by the County (EPO Plan). The plan covers the employee and all eligible dependents at NO ADDITIONAL COST!
  • Employee premiums are $234.54 per month as of January 1, 2025 for employee and all eligible dependents.

PAID LEAVES:
  • Benefits also include an annual paid leave plan of
    • 96 hours of vacation (increases upon continuous years of service)
    • 96 hours of sick leave
    • 14 paid holidays plus one 8 hour personal holiday
LIFE INSURANCE:
  • Approximately 80% of the premium for a $30,000 life insurance plan for the employee is paid for by the County.

RETIREMENT:
  • A retirement plan through CalPERS.
    • CalPERS Formulas:
      • Classic member = 2% @ 55
      • New Member = 2% @ 62
  • A Deferred Compensation retirement plan option with a County match of up to a maximum of $60 per month.
