Job Description

1. CENTER LEADERSHIP. Develop and execute ongoing programs that encourage developmentally appropriate activities which foster physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and aesthetic development. Collaborate with academic units across campus to provide field experience placement and student teaching opportunities for WSU students. Provide timely communication to parents and staff thru face to face and electronic means. Work with staff to plan and execute classroom curriculum and program activities. Create and implement annual and ongoing schedules for the center which meet the needs of families, staff and the University. Oversee the enrollment and orientation of new children and families to the center. Oversee nutritional program requirements are met. Lead a parent advisory committee.

2. PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT. Provide leadership in the hiring, selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of professional and student staff. Create a department culture committed to professional development, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Provide day-to-day supervision and conferences as well as regular staff meetings. Maintain records to comply with state licensing regulations. Lead staff meetings. Plan ongoing training opportunities and develop yearly Center and individual staff professional development goals.

3. FISCAL MANAGEMENT. Manage the budget in compliance with agreed parameters. Oversee enrollment management and billing of services. Prepare and present annual operating budgets and revenue projections to the Dean. Seek opportunities for external funding through grants, fundraising and other organizational sponsored activities.

4. COMPLIANCE AND MAINTENANCE. Develop, adapt and monitor compliance of operating, children, and staff policies and procedures to comply with changing center, state, and university needs. Ensure compliance with licensing standards and University operations and quality standards. Maintain all documents and requirements to maintain state license and national accreditation. Ensure safety, cleanliness, general repair of facility and equipment. Maintain the safety and quality of classroom materials. Order new equipment as needed.

5. SERVE AS MEMBER OF THE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION LEADERSHIP TEAM. Be a leader and innovator within the CSS and College, seeking out new ways of carrying out the functions of the Center. Participate in discussions and decision making with the COE leadership team and COE program leads to ensure a holistic approach to the management of COE programs and services. Collaborate with other COE Center Directors / Academic Department Chairs to ensure College success and adherence to policies and procedures.

6. OTHER DUTIES: Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of Winona State University. Including but not limited to participating on committees and work groups and participating in professional development opportunities. Offer continuing education opportunities for southeastern Minnesota early childhood professionals.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Education or related field
  • Five (5) years' experience in early childhood or elementary education
  • Valid Teaching License by date of hire
  • Experience managing budgets
  • Supervision experience
  • First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days of employment
  • Must pass a State of Minnesota background study

Preferred Qualification
  • Teaching Licensure in area Early Childhood or Elementary Education
  • Knowledge of preservice teacher supervision and development
  • Knowledge of Minnesota Department of Human Services licensing for childcare centers
  • Knowledge of National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation
  • Knowledge of Minnesota Parent Aware Quality Rating System
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently utilizing computers to conduct business (i.e.: Microsoft Office suite, computerized record keeping, and web application software).
  • Experience creating and maintaining positive relationships with diverse constituents, including students, colleagues, parents, the community and other external partners.

Salary Range: $54,344 - $116,608; Commensurate with qualifications and experience
