DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This role focuses on overseeing railroad crossing safety improvement projects, including warning device upgrades, new crossing construction, and highway-rail bridge rehabilitation or replacement. Since the early 1900s, the PUC has regulated the railroad industry to ensure safe crossings for the traveling public and the secure movement of trains throughout the Commonwealth. While the position is headquartered in Harrisburg, it involves occasional travel within Pennsylvania for site inspections, on-site diagnostic meetings, and final project reviews. In this role, you will collaborate with representatives from the railroad industry, state agencies, utility companies, and municipalities. Responsibilities include reviewing engineering plans and preparing documentation to authorize project construction. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- This position may require travel.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. You will be required to report to the headquarters worksite daily, unless eligibility requirements have been met and telework has been approved. Management may discontinue any telework arrangement at any time, for any reason. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
- To be eligible to participate in telework, the employee's alternate (telework) worksite must be within a reasonable travel distance of Harrisburg and within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of professional civil engineering experience which includes three years in the appropriate specialty.
Special Requirement:
- Possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
Condition of Employment:
- This position requires possession of a valid driver's license.
Post-Employment Requirement:
- For the Bridges and Transportation parentheticals, successful candidates with an out of state Professional Engineer license will be required to produce a valid Professional Engineer license issued by Pennsylvania within their initial six-month probationary period.
