Position Summary
Below are the current vacancies that Southeast Region System Operations Section is recruiting for. This list will be updated as positions are filled as well as new positions will be added.
Maintenance Engineer - This position functions as one of three Southeast Region maintenance program managers working with the Supervisor on managing the overall state program. Assignments are broad in scope and continually require the use of independent judgement in making professional engineering decisions regarding Highway Maintenance Activities. This position performs work in response to program needs as interpreted by the employee, with general review of the work by the supervisor. Engineering responsibilities require collaboration with county public works departments and the general public. The work requires engineering judgment on complex technical concerns and sensitive issues. This position is responsible for plan and specification field reviews of state highway projects. The position will serve as a Regional Incident Management Coordinator (RIMC) which requires being on standby 24/7 on a rotating basis.
This position provides advice and guidance on policies, rules, regulations and guidelines for all highway maintenance operations and programs. This position will provide oversight of regional liaison activities with internal Regional and statewide partners as well as the Department of Natural Resources. In addition, the position works with the counties on tracking costs and materials; serves as a liaison with various governmental units; and responds to problems and complaints
Work Zone Engineer - This position functions as the Region Work Zone Engineer, collaborating with the traffic supervisor and staff to achieve the goal of safe and efficient work zones. Responsibilities of this Civil Engineer-Advanced include reviewing work zone designs and field implementations as well as monitoring those completed by the Civil Engineer-Senior/Entry position. The Region Work Zone Engineer provides traffic control and traffic management plan guidance and acceptance to WisDOT staff, consultants, and contractors. These stakeholders implement work zones on improvement projects, maintenance projects and utility/development permit work. In addition, the Region Work Zone Engineer participates on statewide committees/teams for determining statewide traffic engineering policy, standards, and guidelines.
Salary Information
This position is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $90,064-$108,950, plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

- A valid Professional Engineering registration and be able to obtain a Wisconsin PE registration within 3 months if PE registration is from another state
