As our Civil Engineer, you will work in multifaceted ways to support Infrastructure management, operations support, and environmental support. During infrastructure management, you will identify necessary expansions or deficiencies in existing infrastructure and plan, design, and manage construction of remediation efforts. Infrastructure includes:
    • Water Systems - Potable, sewage, storm water, and process water collection, conveyance, and treatment systems.
    • Roads - Haul roads, maintenance roads, and bridges.
    • Port Facilities - Deepwater port, barge loading facilities, commuter boat dock, and a float plane dock.
    • Tailings and Mine Waste Facilities - dry stack tailing facility, engineered mine waste storage.

You will also provide technical support for the environmental group. This includes ensuring permit compliance and developing remediation efforts and improvements if environmental controls are deficient. The mill and underground groups may also call on you for technical support. In this role, you will ensure the ongoing success of Greens Creek's ability to operate in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island 18 miles south of Juneau, is an underground polymetallic mine operating since 1989, employing approximately 500 people. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. Here's what you can expect in this role:
  • Training first. Every hire is provided MSHA training in the first 4 days on the job. We also provide department-level training on not just what to do, but safety, as well.
  • You will work in a variety of disciplines such as project planning, construction, land development, geotechnical design, hydraulic design, soil mechanics, waste water treatment, or solid waste management.
  • You will work with specialists on specific issues such as soil or ground water contamination or energy development and conservation.
  • You conceptualize and design the main features of a project, then perform and direct the work of drawing plans, writing scopes of work, writing specifications, preparing cost estimates and tracking systems.
  • You participate in surveying, site investigation, or construction inspection.
  • You'll sample and test soil or construction materials in the laboratory or the field.
  • You will prepare reports on funding, scheduling, scope of work, environmental impact, risk assessment programs and excavation plans.
  • You will help to foster a strong safety culture, promoting and exemplifying safe work practices throughout the organization.
