Job Description

The Project Manager is responsible for the quality of work performed, client service, utilization of staff, contract management, billing collection and project profitability. The PM applies technical expertise and project management experience to manage project teams, functions as a mentor to technical staff to assist in their technical training and development, and acts as a company representative to clients. As the bulk of the office's clients are public agencies (primarily cities and counties), experience in public infrastructure design is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Responsible for the quality of work, schedule, and profitability of those projects that the PM manages.
  • Assists the Branch Office Manager (BOM) in the implementation of the Business Development sales plan and goals established for the office. PM is expected to develop and implement an individual sales goal as part of the office goal. PM has primary responsibility for maintaining positive relationships with current clients. This includes an awareness of all projects that clients might be considering.
  • Assists the BOM in the preparation of proposals. Identifies new business opportunities for the firm, coordinates and participates in project presentations to clients and other external groups, and promotes firm's capabilities, promoting its services among existing and prospective clients.
  • Provides day-to-day guidance to technical staff in the performance of their duties. Directs project team and client compliance with the terms of contract, and monitors subcontractors' compliance with contractual commitments. Serves as the Project Engineer on some projects.
  • Coordinates and participates in proposal development, contract negotiations with clients and subcontractors, and drafts professional service agreements and modifications for review by BOM. Implements the project management manual and monitors the project budget. Creates and submits project initiation documents.
  • Assists the BOM in the preparation and updating of projected revenue and staffing needs.
  • Monitors engineering contracts, subcontracts, contract modifications, and other agreements to ensure that established internal procedures are being followed. Ensures all engineering contracts are reviewed by two officers of the corporation.
  • Manages the project to meet expected profit established by the initiation documents.
  • Assists BOM in the training and evaluation of performance of personnel and in determining how their effectiveness can be improved.
  • Maintains direct contact with clients. The PM must be readily available to office staff and clients.
  • An annual performance review will be performed by the BOM. At such time, the following year's budgets and goals will be discussed.


Job Requirements

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Required
  • Must have 10-15 years' experience in profession
  • Must be a Texas licensed Professional Engineer
  • Capable of managing multiple projects, concurrently
  • Experience in public infrastructure design is strongly preferred
  • Project Manager must possess all qualifications, knowledge, and experience of a Project Engineer.
  • Project Manager is an experienced engineer who can define a project, develop a set of tasks to accomplish the project, coordinate and monitor the work involved in the tasks, and deliver a final product on time and within prescribed budget.
  • Experience in coordinating technical efforts of others
  • Project Management Experience: Manage from conception to completion at least one significant project
  • Demonstrated ability to work on and manage a variety of technical tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to make formal presentations to clients and company management.
  • Demonstrated ability to estimate the costs associated with technical tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Marketing success - repeat work with clients
