UPMC Jameson and UPMC Horizon are seeking a dynamic Clinical Director to oversee our inpatient medical surgical units across three campuses: UPMC Jameson in New Castle, PA, UPMC Horizon - Shenango Valley in Farrell, PA, and UPMC Horizon Greenville in Greenville, PA. This regional position offers the unique opportunity to rotate between these locations, ensuring comprehensive oversight and leadership.

As the Clinical Director, you will be accountable for achieving quality patient care through effective leadership and utilization of human and fiscal resources. You will develop, operate, and evaluate program areas, driving innovation and strategic benchmarking to meet present and future trends.

Responsibilities:
  • Professional Growth: Engage in professional organizations to enhance personal growth and build collaborative relationships at regional, national, and international levels.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Prepare, monitor, and achieve budgeted annual man-hours, expenses, and capital budgets based on patient, clinical program, staff, and physician needs. Direct program teams to function within their scope of practice and job descriptions.
  • Clinical Systems and Outcome Achievement: Develop and evaluate clinical systems and processes to facilitate comprehensive patient/family care across the continuum. Achieve organizational outcomes related to core measures, regulatory influences, pay for performance, HCAPS, staff and customer satisfaction, and identify areas for growth and development.
  • Collaboration and Clinical Practice Changes: Work with medical staff and key stakeholders to improve patient outcomes, set clinical quality priorities, and implement service line-based patient safety initiatives. Conduct analysis of clinical variance trends and direct programmatic activities to achieve organizational operational imperatives.
  • Research and Risk Assessment: Identify and participate in research activities, promoting and utilizing evidence-based practice. Lead risk reduction strategies within the service line.
  • Visionary Leadership and Strategic Planning: Create a shared vision, apply critical thinking skills, and utilize financial and quality data in the development of the service line/program vision and operational plan. Conduct analysis of areas of responsibility to define proactive processes and share information for organizational strategic planning.
  • Problem-Solving and Leadership Style: Address complex, high-risk problems and translate them into opportunities and challenges. Adapt leadership style based on the situation and developmental stage of individuals or groups.
  • Professional Development and Shared Governance: Coach and advise direct reports and professional staff in the formulation of their professional development plans. Create a structure and support a shared governance model, facilitating staff involvement in decision-making and promoting peer-to-peer accountability.
  • Team Building and Best Practices: Develop and maintain productive working relationships internally and externally, building teams and relationships through mentoring and positive communication. Seek opportunities to adopt best practices, eliminate duplication, and maximize efficiency.


Qualifications:

  • BSN required at time of hire or transfer into position.
  • Masters degree in Nursing or related health care field required, either at time of hire/transfer, or must be enrolled in a program within one year of hire/transfer date and completed within three years of enrollment. (i.e. public health, informational technology, administration, etc.)
  • Knowledge of clinical practice human resource management normally gained through a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in health care including supervision and leadership.
  • Analytical ability necessary to evaluate staff, address and improve clinical and programmatic issues and devise solutions to complex problems.
  • Leadership ability to develop staff, establish and maintain standards of performance within a national context for professional nursing practice and comply with administrative requirements.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to effectively create relationships to support a healing environment with patients, families, staff, physicians and hospital personnel including senior management in both written and verbal communication.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Registered Nurse (RN)

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
