Job Summary
The Clinical Documentation Integrity facilitates review of clinical documentation through concurrent/retro-respective review. Works with providers capturing clinical acuity and severity, which translates into coded data. The CDI role involves extensive record review, interaction with physicians, health information management professionals, coders, and other CHOC clinical staff.
Pay Range
Minimum $45.72 Midpoint $60.58 Maximum $75.43
Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.
Experience
Required: Minimum three years of acute care CDI experience. If the candidate is not a graduate from an accredited RN or LVN nursing program or Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG), then in lieu of requirements CHOC will accept minimum seven years of inpatient hospital coding experience and must be RHIA/RHIT/CCS certified with strong clinical background.
Preferred: Five years of acute care CDI experience. Previous pediatric experience in Med/Surg, Critical Care, Emergency or PACU.
Education
Required: Must meet one of the following requirements: Graduate from an accredited RN or LVN nursing program, OR Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) *Note - if candidate is not a graduate from an accredited RN or LVN nursing program or Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG), then In lieu of requirements CHOC will accept minimum seven years of inpatient hospital coding experience and must be RHIA/RHIT/CCS certified with strong clinical background.
Preferred: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Healthcare related field.

Specialized Skills
Required: Knowledge of pathophysiology, advanced clinical expertise, and extensive knowledge of complex disease processes. Strong knowledge of ICD-10 CM, PCS, and query process. Excellent verbal & written communication skills, and strong critical thinking. Understanding of complications, comorbidities, severity of illness, risk of mortality, case mix index, and the impact of procedures on the clinical documentation. Ability to work independently, self-motivated, and adapt to the changing healthcare arena through continuous education. Ability to collaborate and communicate well with providers and other health information management team members. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a changing environment. Proficiency in computer use, electronic health record system, and 3M 360 all applications. Ability to seek out changes in healthcare and coding. Knowledge of Core Measure and Patient Safety Indicators.
Licensure
Required: Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) or Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP).
