Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Unit Manager of the Child Health Clinic, the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is a member of the Child Health Clinic multidisciplinary team and is responsible for providing support to the Pediatric Kids in Care program. As a clinical practitioner, this position is responsible for treating children and adolescents from across Alberta who have experienced neglect or trauma, whether physical, emotional, or sexual, and are in in need of intervention by Children and Family Services. This includes assessing and managing risks and complications, providing therapeutic interventions, planning, coordinating care in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, monitoring and evaluating outcomes and advocating for health and social services that best meet the patient's and family's needs. Additionally, the position is accountable for the development and implementation of standards of nursing practice guidelines, education strategies, quality management, research initiatives, and system change.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist is accountable for participating in planning and implementation of program based initiatives for achieving the goals and objectives of the program. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.
Required Qualifications: Graduate of a Masters of Nursing program Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) required. Additional Required Qualifications:
A minimum of two (2) years related pediatric experience using a trauma informed approach with children and adolescents. Must have the ability to develop therapeutic relationships with individuals, families, communities, nurses, and members of the interdisciplinary team. Must possess a strong desire to work with vulnerable populations in a positive way and have ability to approach every interaction with respect and empathy. Must possess special knowledge and a skill set which includes excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills; excellent communication skills; ability to work effectively with a small interdisciplinary team; strong leadership skills; ability to adapt to quickly changing clinical needs; ability to work independently with exceptional time management and organizational skills; excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills;
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of relevant legislation including Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act (CYFEA), the Criminal Code and the Children First Act an asset. Working knowledge and/or experience working with Children and Family Services as asset. Project and change management knowledge and experience preferred.
