Cherry Hospital, an accredited State Psychiatric Hospital serving the eastern region of North Carolina, is recruiting for a Clinical Social Work Supervisor position int the ITU. The Independence Transition Units (ITU) provide evaluation and long-term treatment to patients experiencing chronic psychiatric, behavioral, substance abuse, developmental and/or emotional disorders. It is designed to help meet the needs of patients who may require more than an acute stay due to a number of factors including resistance to medication, chronicity and severity of illness, discharge/placement barriers, and/or unresolved legal issues. The patients served by ITU typically range from ages 18-60 and are involuntarily committed. These individuals are deemed dangerous to self or others, are in need of a structured and controlled environment, and/or require evaluation/treatment related to criminal or civil proceedings. The primary goal of treatment is stabilization of psychiatric symptoms and resolution of psychosocial factors to enable adult patients to return to a less restrictive environment or proceed with criminal/civil hearings. The Clinical Social Work Supervisor provides both administrative and direct clinical supervision to Provisional Clinical Social Workers and administrative supervision and orientation to fully Licensed Clinical Social Workers working in the ITU areas. The supervisor is responsible for always ensuring adequate social work coverage on the units. The supervisor oversees the assignment of cases to individual social workers and provides consultation on serious and/or complicated cases. They are responsible for disseminating information from higher levels including ELT, CMT, and from the Social Work Program Director. The social work supervisor is responsible for monitoring and maintain a level of quality and consistency by reviewing the records of social workers in their unit on a quarterly basis. They compile the reviews and providing technical direction and clinical feedback on problem areas. The supervisor may also act as consultant or specialist of social work issues in relation to other disciplines in the unit. Supervisors may provide coverage for unit social workers in emergencies and as needed. The supervisor also provides coverage for Social Work Program Director and Social Work Supervisor colleagues when needed. Additionally, they provide clinical supervision/in-service to staff to enhance their job skills. The supervisor serves as a member of Social Work Management Team, Pharmacy and Therapeutics and ITP Committees. May serve on other hospital committees; civic, regular and ad hoc

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
*Broad knowledge of clinical social work and its practice/application including knowledge of the laws, regulations, and policies which govern social work programs and local/state/federal mental health laws .

*Ability to provide clinical supervision to staff for licensure purpose and clinical/problematic cases of the adult population.

*Considerable knowledge of behavioral, psychosocial problems, adolescent and adult (geriatric) psychopathology and their treatment.

*Clinical skills to provide individual family therapy to the adult population,

*Considerable knowledge of interdisciplinary treatment team process/development of treatment plan.

*Considerable knowledge of community resources for adults with SPMI.

*Ability to monitor to ensure compliance to standards, program development to meet needs of adult population and performance improvement.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Master's degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker as required by the NC Social Work Certification and Licensure Board.

Necessary Special Qualifications Licensure by the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
Degrees must be from appropriately accredited colleges or universities.
***Management prefers: Considerable knowledge in the field of Mental Health across population and clinical supervision per requirement of NC Licensure Board for Social Work. Certification in clinical supervision is also preferred. ***
