Mission or Goal of Unit: Pursue the Research, Clinical, and Education Missionsof the academic medical center in the areas of Hematology, Oncology, andPalliative Care. Through bench research,clinical trials and the rigorous study of prevention and control, ourscientists pursue the many roles of medicine in treating, preventing andcontrolling the adverse effects of cancer. Our hallmark activity is translational research, where our physiciansand scientists work to bring laboratory discoveries to the patient bedside asquickly and safely as possible. Throughour training programs, our faculty train the next generation of scientists and physiciansto further advance science and practice.

Chief Purpose of this position: The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology, Oncology and Palliative Care is seeking a candidate that will have a role in advancing the clinical mission with a focus on BoneMarrow Transplant and Hematology and will be expected to work collaborativelywith other members of the Massey Cancer Center.
Position Responsibilities:

Teaching | Trains medical students, residents and fellows while in theclinic. Expected to actively participatein providing research opportunities to fellows. Mentors junior faculty.

Research | Participates and engages other members of the Massey CancerCenter and the Department of Internal Medicine in collaborative researchprojects. Stays up to date on the clinical trial menu offered through theMassey Cancer Center and educates patients on their options for treatment onclinical trials.

Service | Participate in program tumor boards, QualityAssurance and Improvement activities and meetings, and in ad hoc programproject endeavors as directed by the Medical Director. Help to give relevantteaching sessions to the APP in the CIT program.

Clinical | Attends on the inpatient Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, and seespatients in the outpatient clinic for consults, post-transplant care and inlong term survivorship.

Required Qualifications:
  • Board certified or eligible in Medical Oncology or Hematology
  • Eligible for Virginia licensure
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the practical and active care and support ofpatients undergoing autologous, allogeneic, haplotype and cord bloodtransplants
  • Experience in thepractical and active care of patients undergoing CARt and cellular therapy
