The position: (Senior) Cloud Infrastructure Engineer (remote)
Conception is looking for a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join our growing team. The right candidate should have 3-5 years of experience in the field and demonstrated expertise working on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This individual will work closely with a talented team of bioinformaticians and will be responsible for the deployment, lifecycle, and stability of Conception's computational and data storage resources. Conception is a startup with the mission to generate viable human eggs from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). Conception is looking for a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join our growing team. The right candidate should have 3-5 years of experience in the field and demonstrated expertise working on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This individual will work closely with a talented team of bioinformaticians and will be responsible for the deployment, lifecycle, and stability of Conception's computational and data storage resources. In this role you will:
- Maintain and extend existing GCP-based compute infrastructure for Conception.
- Leverage Terraform, Git flow, and infrastructure-as-code best practices for lifecycle management of core infrastructure resources.
- Apply software & security updates to all infrastructure components.
- Maintain cloud-based data storage infrastructure, ensuring data integrity and retention.
- Maintain and improve our PostgreSQL database of biological sample metadata.
- Build and maintain automated workflows to ensure timely data processing.
- Scope and lead a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects to support the needs of bioinformatic and bench scientists at Conception.
Required skills:
- 3-5 years of prior experience as Cloud Infrastructure Engineer or similar
- GCP Cloud Associate certification, or better
- Linux system administration
- Languages: Terraform, bash, python
- Familiarity with CI/CD and industry-standard practices for deployment of new code
- Experience with schedulers or similar for task automation
- Experience with standard container tooling (Docker, Singularity, Nextflow)
- Ability to scope and lead projects independently
- Proactivity around seeking input, gathering requirements, spotting potential problems, and unblocking others
Preferred skills:
- Database administration experience, especially PostgreSQL
- Experience with SLURM or similar workload managers
- General knowledge of networking
- General interest in bioinformatics and biology
- Proactivity around optimizing infrastructure for cost, performance, and security
- Ability to communicate about infrastructure to a diverse audience
- Languages: R, SQL
