Objective of the Job:
This position is an automation technician responsible for troubleshooting, improving, and maintaining the Level 2 automation system in the Cold Rolling area of the Big River Steel facility.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Ensure Safety, Environmental, Quality requirements and "where applicable" ResponsibleSteel requirements are followed
2) Responsible for server computers, setup modeling and reference distribution system, data management systems, communication systems and other control equipment.
3) Work directly with all maintenance and operations personnel in a fast-paced environment to develop and improve the Cold Rolling Processes.
4) Help maintain a positive and efficient work environment focused on safety and reliability.
5) Train others in the electrical department on the function and maintenance of the Level 2 systems and cross-train with the Level 1 Technician.
6) Support plant operations and work with the Quality/IT departments to help attain production goals
7) Manage the design, development, implementation, and procurement of hardware and/or software for Level 2 improvement projects and provide support for other disciplines' projects
Qualifications:
1) Demonstrated safety focus and willingness to proactively apply it in a team environment
2) Quality and detail oriented with superior problem solving and communication skills
3) Highly motivated, self-directed, hands-on approach, and willing to put in extra hours or on-call support
4) Minimum 5 years of automation experience in the metals industry (casting theory preferred)
5) Experience with server and network device configuration and maintenance
6) PLC programing (Siemens preferred), data acquisition/analysis, and HMI programming experience
7) High level programming with experience in C++, C#, Java, Oracle Database, Visual Studio, MS Windows server/system administration, MS productivity tools, TCP/IP communications
8) Computer/electrical degree or equivalent training is required
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Environment is typical for a steel mill production area, with extreme temperatures, high noise levels, and Dusty / greasy areas. Physically demanding work will be required in the production environment. Scheduled work hours are day shift Monday through Friday.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position does not supervise others.
