Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced CNC Manufacturing Engineer to lead the installation, commissioning, and operation of our state-of-the-art Double Column Vertical Machining Center. This role is pivotal to expanding our in-house machining capabilities and reducing reliance on outsourced machining. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with leadership capabilities to oversee initial machine setup, launch production of large machined components, and drive process optimization and training.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Installation and Commissioning:
    • Lead the setup and commissioning of the DCM 3260F Double Column Machining Center, ensuring all systems and controls are calibrated for optimal performance.
    • Coordinate with vendors, technicians, and internal stakeholders to meet installation deadlines and specifications.
  • Machining Operations:
    • Operate and program the DCM 3260F for high-precision machining tasks, including large components typically outsourced to suppliers.
    • Develop and refine machining processes to maximize efficiency and precision, with a focus on leveraging the machine's multi-axis capabilities.
  • Programming and Process Development:
    • Write, debug, and optimize CNC programs using Fanuc controls and relevant CAD/CAM software.
    • Develop machining strategies and document standard operating procedures for repeatability and training.
  • Knowledge Gathering:
    • Travel to existing machining suppliers to study best practices and identify opportunities for improvement in internal operations.
    • Gather insights on effective use of advanced machining equipment to inform operational strategies.
  • Training and Succession Planning:
    • Train and mentor machinists on advanced CNC programming and operations, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
    • Establish a training program to build bench strength and ensure succession planning for long-term operational sustainability.
  • Collaboration and Leadership:
    • Partner with cross-functional teams to align machining capabilities with production goals and project timelines.
    • Collaborate with supply chain and engineering teams to integrate machining capabilities into the production workflow.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
    • 5+ years of experience in CNC machining and programming, including experience with Fanuc controls.
    • Proven expertise in operating and programming multi-axis machining centers, especially double-column models.
    • Experience with large Vertical Machining Centers is required.
    • Strong knowledge of tooling, material properties, and machining strategies for large components.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to train and mentor others.
    • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software.
    • Willingness to travel as needed to supplier locations for knowledge-gathering purposes.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience overseeing the installation and commissioning of advanced CNC equipment.
    • Background in heavy-duty machining or machining of large components.
    • Familiarity with MasterCam.
    • Experience with DSN machines or the DCM 3260F model.
    • Leadership or project management experience in a manufacturing environment.
    • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles.
