Land Use Services Department is recruiting for a Code Enforcement Supervisor. This role is responsible for supervising the field services activities of employees within the Code Enforcement Division, ensuring compliance with regulations, and overseeing the most complex and high-level code enforcement tasks. The Code Enforcement Division is tasked with both field and office operations related to the enforcement of housing, land use, public nuisance, vehicle, and fire hazard ordinances. Responsibilities include conducting thorough investigations, property surveys, and collaborating with property owners to ensure adherence to relevant permits and codes. Additionally, the position requires responding to public concerns, maintaining accurate records and reports, managing evidence, and providing testimony in both civil and criminal proceedings.
Positions may be assigned to a 4/10 schedule depending on business needs.
The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill current vacancies throughout the County and new vacancies as they arise. Positions typically report to the San Bernardino, Hesperia, or Joshua Tree locations and are required to travel throughout their assigned region and throughout the County as needed.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Land Use Services Department- Code Enforcement Division administers programs designed to protect the public's safety, welfare, and property value through enforcement of San Bernardino County ordinances and State/Federal laws relating to land use, zoning, housing, public nuisances and vehicle abatement within the unincorporated areas of the county. In addition, the Fire Hazard Abatement Program conducts surveys to identify fire hazards throughout the year; the Program responds to complaints year round in the unincorporated areas and contracting Cities and Fire Districts.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Pre-employment Process: Prior to appointment, candidate must undergo a background check, which includes fingerprinting and a medical exam.
Travel: Travel throughout San Bernardino County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.
Availability: Positions are subject to evening, weekend, holiday, and call-back work.
Physical Requirements: Requires frequent climbing, kneeling, crawling, lifting, and carrying of items weighing up to 25 pounds.
Certification: Must possess and maintain PC 832 certification.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must meet one (1) Certification Requirements AND the Experience Requirement to qualify.

CERTIFICATION OPTION REQUIREMENTSCertification Option 1:
PC 832 and Basic Certification issued by California Association of Code Enforcement Officers (CACEO) or equivalent.
Certification Option 2:
PC 832 and International Code Council (ICC) Building Inspector Certification or other Code Enforcement related ICC certification.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTThree (3) years experience as a Code Enforcement Officer enforcing, investigating, and interpreting code and ordinance violations related to land use, building, single/family residential and commercial structures, vehicle code, zoning, and public nuisance abatement. Experience must include ONE (1) year as a Senior/Lead Code Enforcement Officer for a California public agency.
