About the Team

RDA's Legal and Commercial function is a dynamic team made up of legal, contracting, commercial, intellectual property and trade control specialists that support the business in delivering and mitigating risk under existing contracts and tendering for new business.

About the Role

As the Commercial Director you can anticipate some of your day-to-day tasks to include:
  • Provide strategic commercial support to various Commonwealth projects (including L400-2 and Heavy Weapon Carrier);
  • Set the commercial strategy for the relevant projects and actively mitigate commercial risk;
  • Be a key interface between Project Managers, Engineering, Finance and Procurement to ensure that commercial objectives are being driven and met;
  • Lead commercial negotiations with RDA's customers, including the Commonwealth of Australia, and manage high value and critical Defence contracts;
  • Oversee the Intellectual Property Programs (IPP) and ensure that the IPP are managed efficiently (together with the IP Manager) from a customer, supplier, and intercompany perspective;
  • Ensure the programs understand and are compliant with export controls and technology controls (together with the Export Control Manager);
  • Manage the negotiation and execution of subcontracts with third parties and related entities;
  • Manage the contractual relationships with the Commonwealth, Subcontractors, and Rheinmetall corporate resources;
  • Ensure that the project teams and commercial teams are aware of RDA's contractual obligations, contractual timelines and contractual risk is mitigated; and
  • Ensure that health, safety, and environmental issues are effectively managed.

The experience and skillset best suited to this role includes:

Essential:
  • Degree in business, finance, engineering, law or equivalent experience;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Team and solution oriented;
  • Working knowledge of contracts, intellectual property, and export/import trade controls;
  • Working knowledge of procurement and earned value management systems;
  • Working knowledge of ADF corporate structure and CASG operations and controls;
  • Experience in managing personnel;
  • Experience in managing contracts of up to $250M annual revenue;
  • Experience in managing subcontracts;
  • Ability to travel interstate and/or overseas when required;
  • Prior Defence experience and understanding of ASDEFCON contracting (desirable not required); and
  • Eligibility to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance (Australian Citizenship required).
