About the branch:
The Communications branchprovides a range of services to the department that supports legislation and ongoing programs. In partnership with other branches, Communications develops communication strategies, and designs communications plans and materials for public engagements. Across the organization the branch interacts with the wider communications community on government shared projects. The branch is responsible for writing for the Yukon.ca website, news releases, newspaper, and radio ads; speech writing for elected officials; social media; and production of graphic materials for new and existing programs. They also handle media relations and organize events.
About the job:
This position is responsible for providing a full range of public relations, social marketing, and professional internal and external communications functions and services to the Sport and Recreation Branch, Yukon Public Libraries, Community Services Human Resources and Health and Safety, and other divisions and branches as required.
Additional Information:
Conditions of Employment: Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
Job Requirements: Ability to travel to locations across Whitehorse and in several communities.

Essential Qualifications:

- Completion of post-secondary education in communications, journalism, or other related discipline;
- Considerable experience in communications planning including developing and delivering communications, marketing and promotional strategies;
- Recent experience in providing strategic communications advice;
- Recent experience in researching, writing and editing a broad range of communications products (e.g. news releases, backgrounders, fact sheets, brochures, web and social media messaging etc.);
- Experience dealing with media and organizing media events;
- Experience producing social media and web content considered an asset.
Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the above qualifications may be equally considered.
