The New Mexico Economic Development Department (NMEDD) works to enhance the state economic growth and vitality by supporting businesses, communities, and individuals throughout New Mexico. NMEDD mission is to create a diverse, sustainable economy through strategic partnerships, policies, and programs that foster job creation and business development.
Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.
Why does the job exist?
The Economic Development Department (EDD) is focused on job creation, business growth, community growth, and business diversification throughout the state.
This position exists to support the department to market and generate as much attention for the department's programs, incentives, and resources to businesses within the state, potential job creators looking to expand or relocate from around the country, and prospective businesses entering the country to target for locating in New Mexico.
How does it get done?
Writing - Must have excellent, versatile writing skills. Assignments include press releases, speeches, talking points, press statements, reports and general content as needed. Ability to craft clear, compelling narratives, edit, fact-check, and ensure messaging integrity. Ability to generate content efficiently with attention to detail.
Social Media management - Must be proficient in managing social media across multiple platforms. This includes posting, tagging, photography, tracking, analytics, identifying trends and implementing strategic campaigns.
Maintain media relations - Ability to plan, stage and execute a successful press conference. Ensure out-going and public-facing communications are accurate, consistent with messaging and appropriately approved; and that incoming media inquiries are fielded in a timely manner. Comfortable interfacing with members of the media.
Public Information Officer (PIO) experience a plus.
Who are the customers?
This position supports the Cabinet Secretary, Deputy Cabinet Secretary, Public Information Officer.
Additional customers and public interactions may include Public Information Officers among other state agencies, media outlets, and reporters.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong writing and communication skills.
The ability to work collaboratively and as part of a team.
The candidate must be able to work on multiple projects at once with quick deadlines.
Additionally, must demonstrate flexibility to understand the various nuances among the department programs and how to effectively message them to prospective businesses.
Minimum Qualification
A Bachelor's degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years of professional level experience with a light strategic impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling twelve (12) years may substitute for the required education and experience. A hiring agency will designate a portion of the required experience to include management, supervisory and/or specialized experience. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.

Employee must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Employee must obtain and maintain a Defensive Driving Certificate.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with extensive personal computer and phone usage, with the ability to attend/lead press conferences.
Working on weekends and some travel may be required.
