Completions Design Engineer - Utah

Primary responsibility is to handle completion design, completion operations surveillance and completion effectiveness/evaluation assignments of a broad scope and moderate difficulty. The engineer will coordinate with asset team members and the completion execution team to support the completion of wells to ensure they are aligned with business objectives. May mentor less experienced engineers on fundamentals and supervise technical work. This role includes leadership positions on teams and projects.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Identify critical needs and issues to develop specific well completion designs and alternatives for consideration. Analysis of historical company and industry completion designs are crucial in providing recommendations.
  • Utilize multi-variate modeling and frac modeling software to sensitize frac design options and communicate results effectively.
  • Collaboration with reservoir characterization team to understand the impacts of completion design decisions on drainage, frac effectiveness and well spacing.
  • Work with reservoir engineers, completion execution engineers, geologists, geophysicists, etc. in the development of completion designs and diagnostics.
  • Test and implement new technologies to reduce costs and/or improve well performance.
  • Develop correlations between geological and completion variables and well performance.
  • Communicate completion design plans and results/updates to Asset/Management team.
  • Integrate learnings with the goal to increase asset value for each drilling cycle.
  • Provide AFE cost estimates for completion design plans and diagnostics.
  • Develop good relationships with offset operator representatives and third party suppliers.
  • Support business development and reservoir engineering in the preparation of scoping cost estimates for acquisitions and the budget and planning processes.
  • On call support, including nights and weekends, may be required.
  • Conduct business with the highest ethical standards; demonstrate decision-making skills that ensure the safety of all persons associated with SM facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Role-Specific Technical Knowledge & Skills:
Proficient understanding of unconventional resource plays in regards to completion design and execution for horizontal wells. Ability to efficiently analyze and manipulate data to draw insights. Software skills will include Spotfire, ARIES, ResFrac/GOHFER, Alteryx, WellView, MS Office. Programming skills a plus.

Education:
B.S. degree in Engineering is required; Petroleum degree is preferred

Typical Experience:
5-10 years Full-Time Engineering Experience Preferred

Schedule: Hybrid work schedule working one week in the office and the next week remote. Office weeks based in Denver or Houston.
