ABOUT THE Division

General description

The Integrated Business Application team believes that innovation, modernization, and transformation is all that we do. We are looking for a talented and skilled Natural Programmer to join our Agile team supporting custom Mainframe processes. As part of the team, you will be continually challenged and responsible for delivering high performance solutions for our customers. On a day-to-day basis, you'll be working collaboratively to support our existing processes and working on modernization of those in as Agile environment. You will also be resolving problems, troubleshooting issues, debugging, and correcting defects. You are a great fit for this position if you are self-motivated, maintain and code to development standards, are exceptional at attention to details, have excellent communication skills and sound judgement, and work well in a team environment.

Work Hours

8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 40-hour week, Monday through Friday. May occasionally work evenings, weekends and/or holidays. Hours may change based on business need. Application support activities periodically require on-call responsibilities or work during non-standard hours.

Teleworking may be considered if certain working conditions are met. The candidate must have permanent residency within the state of Texas and must be able to meet in office requirements, which can vary among different sections (i.e. report to office 1 day/month, 3 days/week, etc.). Travel reimbursements are not provided for teleworking.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree.
Three (3) years of work experience using Natural (Software AG) Language, and/or IBM COBOL 2 Language
Three (3) years of work experience using IBM z/OS JCL
Three (3) year of experience using IBM z/OS DB2 - SQL databases
Three (3) years of work experience in preforming coding and testing of programs in a mainframe environment and working with users on requirements for application changes.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Management Information Systems is preferred.
One (1) year of experience using IBM TSO / ISPF
One (1) year of experience using CLIST / REXX
One (1) year of experience using SAS
One (1) year of experience using CICS
One (1) year of experience working with VSAM files
One (1) year of experience using IDE

Substitution

One (1) additional year of the full-time minimum experience as stated above may substitute for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education with a maximum of 120 semester hours (four years).

SUMMARY OF PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are represented of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

This position requires the incumbent to primarily perform sedentary office work; however, mobility (standing and walking) is routinely required to carry out some duties. It requires extensive computer, telephone and client/customer contact. The job also requires normal cognitive abilities requiring the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies. It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions. Marginal or corrected visual and auditory requirements are required for reading printed materials and computer screens and communicating with internal and external customers.

Also, this position requires the incumbent must be able to ride elevator; must be able to carry laptop home for on-call duties, must be able to sit for hours at one time, must be able to work on a pc keying program changes as a repetitive function.

Employees are required to use their personal mobile phones as a part of 2 factor/multi factor authentication for accessing CPA systems securely. You will also receive critical/emergency calls/texts on your cell phone to ensure immediate communication.

In this role you will:

Code and Unit Test - Performs code required for software modifications, system modifications, and new products.
Gathers additional information from customers, management, and other sources when necessary to code the appropriate changes.
Performs and oversees the analysis, research, and interpretation of business requirements to document technical requirements and develops technical specifications.
Codes requested changes in accordance with standards, guidelines and design documents.
Prepares test data and instructions for production runs.
Tests each coding change to verify that the new code executes according to requests.
Prepares for code reviews and makes adjustments to code based on review results.

Research and Analysis - Performs research and analysis required for project proposals, software modifications, system modifications, and new products.
Coordinates gathering of additional information from customers, management, and other sources when necessary to perform analysis assignments.
Researches and participates in the evaluation of new products to determine the impact of incorporating the product into an environment and adding interfaces to existing systems.
Documents analysis findings including issues, options, costs, estimates, impacts, risks, and dependencies.
Analyzes, reviews, and revises programs to increase operating efficiency or to adapt to new procedures.
Prepares detailed diagrams/documentation to capture application workflow logic for current or proposed software applications.
Participates in Agile Scrum team status, planning, and review sessions.
Participates in structured peer reviews/walkthroughs.

Technical Implementation - Performs implementation activities required for software modifications, system modifications, and new products.
Coordinates implementation activities with all appropriate areas including business customers.
Identifies all deliverables included in the implementation and verifies that deliverables are ready to be installed in the environment.
Reviews total application solution for completeness and acceptance prior to installation.
Modifies job schedules as appropriate to accomplish implementations or to align with business process changes.
Determines the cause of application or environment problems by gathering information related to the problem; identifies appropriate resolution options; obtains appropriate approval; and coordinates the execution of the selected option.
Executes install according to implementation schedule and provides feedback related to the implementation

Performs all other related duties as assigned, including responding to problems in an on-call situation 24 hours a day during a rotation.
