Leads small-to-medium sized configuration engineering projects or manages technical work packages within cost and quality requirements as assigned and allocates or coordinates work with the project or work package. Serves as a subject matter expert and influencer to make complex decisions based on advanced analytical expertise providing innovative solutions and supporting the decision-making process. May provide hiring, promotion and disciplinary action recommendations, as well as performance evaluation and feedback for direct reports.

Candidates must be eligible to obtain the relevant security clearance required for the role, due to the nature of the programmes we deliver for our customers.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for first line supervision of the Configuration Management team, including effectively leading, mentoring, and developing existing staff.
  • Liaise with Engineering Managers, Quality Assurance, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide local technical direction and define configuration management strategy.
  • Identify and help resolve Corrective Actions, including Non-Conformances.
  • Manage configuration management activities over multiple programs of various sizes.
  • Actively participate in improvement activities for software tools used by the business (PDM, PLM and ERP).
  • Chair and manage Configuration Change Boards and other CM-related meetings.
  • Actively participate in the continuous improvement of configuration management as well as collaboratively working with other departments to improve processes for other business areas.
  • Create and maintain a good relationship with the Quality Assurance and Design Assurance teams.
  • Ensure quality is maintained in all areas owned by the CM department by following processes as defined by the company Quality Management System.
  • Fulfil other reasonable duties aligned to your position in line with the business needs, as assigned by the company.


Required Skills, Qualification and Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in Line Management duties for staff, including personal development, training and education.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in delivering Configuration Management activities and direction on multiple applications/projects.
  • Demonstrable experience with Configuration Management lifecycle management.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal stakeholders.
  • Strong product life cycle management experience, resolving corrective actions and addressing non-conformance issues.
  • Knowledge of configuration control related standards and change and configuration management fundamentals and principles.
  • Experience in generating configuration control documentation using MS Office in addition to experience in the application of relevant configuration control software.
  • Knowledge of PDM systems and/or IFS/ERP/MRP systems is desirable.
  • Understanding of budgets and resource allocation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Controlled Goods Program and appropriate security clearance with the Public Services and Procurement Canada's Contract Security Program, including NATO Clearance.

  • Complete understanding and application of Configuration Management principles, concepts, practices and standards (such as CM Industry standard EIA-649)
  • Good team player, with a proactive and collaborative approach.
  • Willingness to embrace change, with a drive to champion the implementation of quality / continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated capability of working under tight timelines.
  • Strong attention to detail and a CM 'mindset' in everything you do.
  • Self-starter with ability to work on their own, and within a cross functional team.
