The University of Chicago's Department of Surgery, Section of Cardiac Surgery, seeks full-time Congenital Cardiac Surgeons at any rank. Appointees will practice in the community setting focusing on congenital and neonatal cardiac surgery primarily at Advocate Children's Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL. Other duties will include teaching and supervision of trainees and students and scholarly activity. Academic rank and compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) are dependent on qualifications.

Appointees will contribute to patient care and join a vibrant and distinguished community of faculty colleagues and learners at UChicago Medicine, the Biological Sciences Division, the Pritzker School of Medicine, and the University of Chicago and its affiliates. The University of Chicago Medicine has been at the forefront of medical care since 1927. Located in historic Hyde Park, the primary medical campus includes the Center for Care and Discovery, Comer Children's Hospital, Bernard A. Mitchell Hospital for adult inpatient care, and the Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine (DCAM) totaling more than 550 beds in service and net patient care revenues over $1.4 billion.

The University of Chicago Heart & Vascular Center has nationally recognized research and education programs that build on collaborations throughout the University and is active in clinical operations and quality improvement in the Medical Center.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois and the State of Indiana, 3) be Board Certified or Board-Eligible by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (or equivalent) as well as Congenital Cardiac Surgery sub-specialty certification, and 4) have completed an ACGME accredited fellowship and/or equivalent training in cardiovascular/ thoracic (CVT) surgery.

We especially welcome applicants with at least 5 years of clinical practice following fellowship completion, demonstrating particular interest and a consolidated track record in neonatal cardiac surgery and cardiac transplantation/ventricular assistance. We also welcome applicants with UNOS certification as transplant surgeon.
