Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, and forecasts to provide insights into business performance.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and industry-specific financial requirements.
Construction Accounting & Job Costing
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable teams.
- Oversee job cost tracking, WIP (Work-in-Progress) reports, and cost-to-complete forecasts.
- Work closely with project managers to ensure accurate budgeting, cost control, and contract compliance.
- Ensure proper subcontractor payments, lien waivers, and retention tracking.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Implement and maintain strong internal controls to protect company assets.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax laws, including sales tax and payroll tax filings.
- Lead financial audits and liaise with external auditors and tax consultants.
Process Improvement & Technology
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve financial reporting efficiency.
- Oversee accounting software systems, such as QuickBooks, Sage 300, etc
- Train and mentor accounting staff on best practices and system use.
Qualifications & Skills:
- 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role within construction or general contracting.
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, job costing, and WIP reporting.
- Experience with AIA billing, subcontractor compliance, and lien management.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, QuickBooks).
- Excellent leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and collaborate with multiple departments.
