Tesla is looking for a highly skilled Construction Design Manager who is passionate about our mission to join our North American R&D Infrastructure team. In this role, you will be asked to own and drive the full design and engineering efforts for construction and infrastructure development projects from concept to build in the LA area and across the U.S. This role requires you to be extremely detail-oriented, identify real hard barriers, and drive the cross-functional teams to execute quickly at high quality. We have a demanding and fast-paced environment, so being self-motivated and self-disciplined is critical. This role will support a new program and will require an entrepreneurial type of candidate who can work in a fast-paced environment and who possesses self-motivation and discipline.

Responsibilities
- Organize and manage construction design packages, design reviews, and deliverables to support all aspects of construction, including scope of work, kick-off, 30%, 60%, 90%, IFP, and IFC, and CA phase and closeout
- Communicate effectively across various cross-functional teams within Tesla, including Construction, Facilities, Workplace, IT, EHS, Project Controls/Estimating to build relationships and ensure overall project alignment
- Manage customer/end user requests and fundamentally understanding stakeholder requirements to convert them into project deliverables and schedules
- Understand different project delivery methods and define strategies for design and engineering deliverables including construction and permit packages for various jurisdictions
- Implement innovative design methodologies and own the full design and engineering efforts for infrastructure construction development from concept to delivery to meet aggressive goals and schedules
- On-board consultant support, as needed, including Request for Proposals, invoicing, and overseeing the team
- Understand lean construction principles and fully integrated design using BIM
- Manage permitting and AHJ processes/relationships for projects in various jurisdictions across North America
- Manage construction administration, including technical planning, scope development, change management, submittals/RFIs, and engineering services during construction
- Implement innovative engineering and design methodologies to support very aggressive program and construction schedules
Requirements
- Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering or equivalent experience
- Minimum 7+ years of professional experience managing complex design projects with heavy MEP scope for R&D facilities, Workplace, and site infrastructure
- CA RA or AIA license preferred; Project Architect experience is a plus. PE license preferred for MEP, CA is a plus
- Advanced project management skills (managing multidisciplinary teams within A/E firms) demonstrating applications of project and program management fundamentals to solve complex engineering problems
- Experience with BIM software, including Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud, and project management software such as Plan Grid or Procore is required
- Ability to effectively execute many projects and tasks in parallel and prioritize critical tasks
- Communicate with, and present to, technical and non-technical team members effectively
- Ability to work with little supervision; proactive and motivated self-starter
- Position based in LA with travel up to 25% to Bay Area and various U.S. sites to support projects

$95,000 - $176,700/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
