Location: Montreal, QC - 3 days in office per week when not traveling.
Duration - 12 Months
Pay rate - $110-115 an hour on T4
Considerable travel is required for the role, principally to operations in Thurso, Quebec and the surrounding region.

About the role
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a highly dynamic team in Energy Procurement within a world-class organization. The energy team is rapidly building subject matter expertise, strategic alliances, and project execution capability in biomass in a drive to decarbonize at pace.

Principal Advisor, Biomass in Procurement:
This role will be responsible for managing wood fiber purchases for Evolys Quebec Inc. and developing biomass solutions for in support of ambitious decarbonisation mandate.
The role reports to the Principal Advisor, Global Energy.
The core function of this role is to support the development and execution of an integrated biomass residue purchase strategy.
This role will work with external biomass suppliers to secure delivered volumes of per defined annual targets, while driving biomass certification and quality assurance programs.
The position will execute biomass procurement activities but will also be expected to support team initiatives and provide strong customer service to our internal stakeholders.
Execute procurement strategy for biomass solutions:
  • Manage biomass purchases: Responsible for the strategy development including the preparation of business strategy recommendations by proactively capturing pertinent market data, evaluating regional strategy, and providing feedback and options to managers for decision making.
  • Develop subject matter expertise: Build expertise in woody fiber and biomass solutions; develop team capability and credibility while collaborating with internal stakeholders.
  • Procurement process: Have a strong understanding and appreciation of procurement best practice.
  • Relationships: Responsible for building highly functioning internal relationships by deploying business partnering principles to improve customer centricity, while also partnering with strategic suppliers to optimise value delivery, innovation, and competitive advantage.
  • Safety: Embedding a holistic and robust approach to safety, security, risk, change and project management across the assigned portfolio. A demonstrated commitment towards embedding HSEC values and principals.
  • Market Engagement: Strong interest in commerce and be well positioned to become a Subject Matter Expert in various biomass markets. Understanding the commercial drivers and levers necessary to build economic value.
  • Governance: Ensuring initiatives are implemented in accordance with governance requirements.
  • International: This is a largely regional role, however, coordinating with geographically dispersed teams to achieve outcomes will be critical. This requires flexibility in working hours, connecting with colleagues in different time zones.
  • Travel: Considerable travel is required for the role, principally to operations in Thurso, Quebec and the surrounding region.
Candidate qualification requirements:
  • A strong commitment to safety and sustainability.
  • Bachelor's degree in forestry or 10+ years of experience specifically related to working with biomass supply operations.
  • Strong understanding of, and demonstrated execution with negotiation, procurement and contract management
  • Strong knowledge of forestry principles, practices, and regulations in Quebec / Canada.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Must have strong aptitude for learning new software programs and the ability to function at an intermediate level or higher in Microsoft Office suite (PPT, Excel, etc.).
  • Detail-oriented mindset to ensure accurate data collection and reporting.
  • Proficiency in both French and English
  • A passion for sustainability and willingness to develop capability in various renewables markets.
