What you'll be doing

As a member of CIBC's team, the Consultant, Business Effectiveness is responsible for contributing to projects that impact the business through in-depth research analysis, interpretation, documentation, and advice on moderately complex business information. The role applies subject matter expertise to consult with the business on process improvements, leading the technical development to deliver high quality processes and procedures while ensuring compliance with CIBC requirements standards, work practices, processes, security standards and policies. The Consultant, Business Effectiveness uses independent judgement to provide guidance to project teams, applying a comprehensive, conceptual and practical understanding of the area of specialization to a wide range of business and technical situations while analyzing business performance. The role participates in risk management and cost optimization projects, supporting the execution of a satisfactory risk plan that incorporates successful audit, and continuous audit and monitoring.

How you'll succeed
  • Be responsive and accessible to the business throughout the day; be proactive in response to information requests and promptly resolve any day-to-day service or business related issues.
  • Build and maintain working relationships with stakeholders across the different functions of the CRE team supports including up to Senior Management levels.
  • Develop and implement business-specific processes and procedures, as applicable, in alignment with existing frameworks, policies, standards, and risk appetites.
  • Review front-line specific procedures and standards and adjust or recommend changes to procedures and standards as appropriate.
  • Support the Business Manager and CAO in ensuring adherence to and proper implementation of various Business Line Risk Management practices around the following areas: (i) Policies, procedures, and standards, (ii) Risk identification/assessment, (iii) Internal controls & testing, (iv) Operational resilience, (v) Reporting & communication, (vi) Training, and (vii) Technology & data.
  • Ensure adherence to various risk management and governance procedures and policies .
  • As appropriate, provide input to or develop business-level risk reporting.
  • Provide appropriate materials and submissions as needed to support the Governance & Controls teams (1Bs) and Independent Risk Management (incl. EAML) response to regulators and for routine continuous monitoring meetings with regulators.
  • Lead, or participate in, special projects as applicable.

  • Escalating matters that can result in adverse market practices and outcomes, thereby negatively impacting CIBC's reputation as a leading financial institution


At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $100,000 - $115,000for the market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit's incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
