Job Summary and Qualifications

As part of the Enterprise Technology Architecture and Innovation (ETAI) team, the Consulting Cloud Architect - Google Cloud Platform (GCP) will help design, implement, and manage scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud solutions. They will be responsible for helping to define the overall cloud architecture, leading the design and implementation of cloud infrastructure, and ensuring alignment with business requirements and industry best practices. They will work closely with development teams, security experts, and business stakeholders to deliver innovative cloud solutions that drive business value and enable our organization's cloud transformation journey.

The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of GCP services and technologies, strong application architecture skills, and a passion for cloud-native development. They should be proficient in DevOps practices, security best practices, and have a proven track record of delivering successful cloud implementations. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential, as they will be responsible for communicating complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences and fostering a collaborative team environment focused on GCP excellence. They will be a key influencer in shaping our organization's cloud strategy and ensuring its success.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Champion a collaborative team environment focused on GCP best practices and knowledge sharing, working closely with development teams, security, and operations colleagues to achieve business objectives through optimized cloud solutions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders (business stakeholders, product owners, project managers, end users, and security teams) to gather and translate functional and non-functional requirements into robust and scalable GCP architectures.
  • Lead investigations and propose innovative GCP-based solutions to complex development, design, and operational challenges, leveraging Google Cloud's services and capabilities.
  • Leading cultural changes for cloud adoption in the organization through HR, training, RFPs, project engagements and business priority areas.
  • Advisory level access to IT leaders for legal, finances, development for cloud and program adoption processes.
  • Champion in technical and business roadmap development with lines of business and domain architects.
  • Active participant in architecture reviews, innovation programs and new technology adoption.
  • Guide team members in accurate scope of work estimation and forecasting for GCP-related projects, considering resource utilization, infrastructure costs, and potential scaling needs.
  • Serve as a GCP subject matter expert and community leader, evangelizing cloud architecture, design patterns, implementation strategies, security standards, and cost optimization best practices within the organization.
  • Perform proof-of-concept (POC) and proof-of-technology (POT) evaluations of various GCP services and solutions to demonstrate their value and feasibility to stakeholders, driving adoption of appropriate technologies.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive architectural designs, feasibility studies, and impact analyses of proposed GCP solutions to diverse audiences, from senior management to analysts and developers, clearly articulating the benefits and trade-offs.
  • Create detailed architectural and design documentation necessary to guide development teams in building and deploying GCP-based applications, including but not limited to: conceptual diagrams, network diagrams, deployment diagrams, security architecture, and data flow diagrams.
  • Practices and adheres to the "Code of Conduct" philosophy and "Mission and Value Statement."
  • Training and mentoring of peers and other staff
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field required
  • 7+ years of experience in systems development and engineering Required


Required and Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Behaviors:

  • Growth Mindset & Continuous Learning: Demonstrates a proactive approach to learning new GCP services, technologies, and best practices.
  • GCP Expertise (Core): Possesses deep knowledge of core GCP services across compute, storage, networking, data, and security.
  • Data Engineering & Integration Skills: Has experience with data-related GCP services and tools, and a foundational understanding of the broader data landscape. Preferred
  • Application Architecture & Development: Understands application architecture principles and development practices relevant to GCP, like microservices, APIs, and serverless.
  • DevOps & Automation: Proficient in DevOps principles and practices with experience using GCP-related tooling for IaC, CI/CD, and configuration management.
  • Security Expertise: Demonstrates a strong understanding of cloud security best practices and GCP security services.
  • Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills: Exhibits excellent problem-solving and analytical skills for resolving complex technical issues in GCP environments.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Communicates technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences and collaborates effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Agile Methodology: Understands and applies Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) in software development lifecycles. Preferred
  • Diagramming and Documentation: Effectively creates clear architectural diagrams, technical documentation, and presentations.
  • Legacy System Integration: Integrates GCP solutions with on-premises systems, understanding common integration patterns.
  • Cost Management: Understands and applies GCP cost management principles and tools to optimize cloud deployments for cost efficiency.
  • Ability to lead technical interviews of potential candidates of a vary levels. Preferred
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.

  • Occasional Travel: The job may require travel from time- to-time, but not on a regular basis.
