SUMMARY

The Controller will oversee all financial aspects of our development and construction department and its expanding portfolio of healthcare real estate projects. This key role will manage budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and compliance for large, complex real estate developments. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in construction accounting, project finance, and team leadership to drive financial excellence across our development initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Oversight and Reporting:

  • Manage all financial activities for development projects, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Prepare and review quarterly financial reporting packages for senior management.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, relevant tax laws, and company policies.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and prepare financial statements for development projects.


Cost Management and Control:

  • Oversee the Development Coordinator team, whose responsibilities include monthly draw process, ensuring timely and accurate submissions to senior management and disbursements to contractors.
  • Implement and maintain robust cost control measures to optimize project spending.
  • Ensure partner compliance with accounting measures, financial coding, internal protocol, and reporting metrics.


Partner and Compliance Management:

  • Monitor and ensure partner compliance with financial agreements and regulations.
  • Manage relationships with lenders, investors, and joint venture partners on financial matters.


Team Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Supervise, manage, and mentor development team coordinators.
  • Work closely with Development team, Investment team, and others to provide financial insights supporting decision-making.
  • Interface with property management accounting staff to ensure smooth transitions from development to operations.


Process Improvement and Innovation:

  • Identify and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting and project accounting.
  • Develop and refine accounting procedures for new development projects.

TRAVEL

Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; Master's degree is preferred. CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance roles within the construction or real estate development industry. Proven experience managing the draw process and partner compliance in a multi-entity environment.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and familiarity with construction accounting practices. Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Yardi) and Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail; ability to interpret complex financial data and present it clearly.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify issues proactively and develop effective solutions in a fast-paced environment.
