Reporting to and partnering with the Director of Finance, the Controller is the steward of the general ledger (and associated sub-ledgers) and engages in dynamic partnerships with business leaders to drive performance and deliver results. The Controller is responsible for maintaining a sound controls environment that complies with the Company's internal accounting policies as well as coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements. This role is a critical part of leading and developing direct reports by managing performance that includes setting KPI goals, and by practicing the disciplines and elements of story and maintaining strong associate relationships.

Required Education and Experience
4-year accounting degree required; CPA required; Knowledge of GAAP and tax accounting; Knowledge of accounting systems and how they are integrated within a company's accounting structures; Knowledge of financial reporting processes; Intermediate Excel Level; Ability to interact professionally with others; Strong analytical skills; Minimum of 5-10 years' experience in public accounting and/or industry specific; Experience in accounting for multiple companies/lines of business preferred.

Essential Functions
General
- Planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions
- Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
- Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements
- Coordinating activities and relationships with external auditors
- Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process
- Managing the annual operating budget process
- Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
- Evaluating and implementing accounting and internal control policies and procedures
- Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software, as needed
- Developing and monitoring business performance metrics
- Overseeing regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance
- Hiring, training and retaining skilled accounting staff
- Assist in maintaining the general ledger and sub-ledgers for multiple legal entities and business lines
- Proactively grow personal understanding of the Company's systems and continuously improve and evolve processes
- Lead month-end and year-end accounting cycles, ensuring data integrity and maintenance of segregation of duties
- Complete special projects as required to include all associated functions (standard general ledger accounting, research on accounting treatments, process development)
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of ethical financial accounting and reporting procedures, including but not limited to GAAP
- Lead/Support all processes involving third-party managed properties from incorporation of financials to loan administration on debt financing and other special projects as required.
Fixed Assets/Capital
- Assist in setting up new capital projects and associated approved development budgets in the accounting systems to ensure projects do not overspend versus established capital thresholds
- General maintenance for fixed assets (primarily land and improvements) in the fixed asset system
- General tasks associated with job cost accounting as needed
