This position assists the VP of Finance and CFO in the oversight of the Company's accounting department and general ledger completeness and accuracy; responsible for enforcing and maintaining a system of internal controls that ensures that company assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reporting is prepared in compliance with all financial policies, SOX requirements and US GAAP

What you'll do? IT'S Exciting!

General

• Act as a strategic business partner through the development of robust month-end close processes.
• Improve documentation of functional and company-wide financial processes and procedures to ensure compliance.
• Assist with design and implementation of accounting policies and procedures in accordance with U.S. GAAP, including lease accounting, inventory management and cut-off.
• Present clear, reliable and accurate financial information to stakeholders.
• Continuously monitor accounting software for accuracy, and report findings to management.
• Oversee and support internal accounting controls to ensure proper segregation of duties, safeguarding of assets, adequate approval of transactions, and accuracy of reporting.
• Train and provide support to the accounting team and associated departments.
• Provide research for variances to support cost/expense control and maximize profitability.

Accounting:

• Lead the areas of accounting, general ledger and financial statement reporting, accounts payable, billing and tax compliance.
• Ensure monthly financial close process and preparation of financial statements including balance sheet, income statement and statement of cash flows are delivered in an accurate and timely manner.
• Support and / or review monthly and year-end closings, journal entries, fixed asset maintenance and reconciliations of prepaid, inventory, AR, AP and other general ledger reconciliation.
• Lead financial integrity of the financials and assist with development and implementation of accounting policies.
• Play active role in compliance, collaborate with monthly reviews, reporting processes and preparation of annual audits.
• Oversee billing activities ensuring (i) timely, accurate and complete billing, (i) accurate, timely, and complete revenue reporting, and (i) accurate, timely, and complete billing and reporting of sales and use tax.
• Analyze and make recommendations on adequacy of reserves and any adjustment recommendations and or need for policy updates for better accuracy and predictability.
• Oversee Accounts Payable function to ensure timely recording of liabilities and payment to suppliers.
• Oversee timely, accurate filing and compliance with federal and state tax requirements. Perform other duties or special projects, as assigned by the VP of Finance and CFO.

What you need to join the fun (besides SUGAR):

• Bachelors degree in Accounting; MBA a plus
• Minimum of 3-4 years in Public Accounting is highly preferred
• Minimum of 3 years' private industry, if went through public accounting, or 7-years+ experience required
• Proven track record of managing teams under compressed deadlines and meeting set deliverables
• Retail experience and strong understanding of Inventory is highly preferred
• Strong understanding of Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains Accounting systems preferred
• Advanced skills in MS Excel are required
• CPA strongly preferred
• Strong business acumen and ability to exercise positive influence in cross-functional teams
• Experience in identifying and implementing process improvements
• Ability to independently troubleshoot and solve problems, analyze, plan, lead and manage projects
• Ability to influence others independently, without the benefit of authority
• Proactively assist others. Step in and help when, and as needed
• Execute special projects and perform other duties as assigned
• Ability to solve problems and apply creative and timely solutions
