SALARY RANGE: $100,000 - $125,000 depending on years of experience

POSITION SUMMARY

The Controller plays a vital role in the preparation, accuracy, and integrity of the enterprise's financial records including ensuring compliance with US GAAP and other relevant regulations. The position has primary responsibility for the development and administration of financial policies and procedures across the enterprise. This includes oversight of the finance department, accounts and receivables, accounts payable, and collections across the enterprise. Your efforts will directly contribute to the enterprise's success by playing a critical role in driving financial accuracy, operational efficiency, and strategic decision-making. The Controller reports to the Consultant/Acting CFO and has a dotted line reporting structure to the President & CEO.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Financial Reporting and Compliance - Oversee the timely preparation and accuracy of the consolidated and stand-alone financial statements (monthly, quarterly, and annual) in accordance with US GAAP. Manage the annual audit process with external auditors. Ensure compliance with all relevant financial and compliance regulations. Maintain accounting policies and procedures, update for new guidance or standards, and evaluate opportunities for improvement.

- Accounting Operations - Direct and manage all accounting functions, including general ledger and trial balance, review of general journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, intercompany transactions, and treasury. Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard the organization's assets.

- Team Leadership and Development - Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability. Conduct performance reviews and provide opportunities for professional growth.

- Systems and Process Improvement - Evaluate accounting systems and processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Identify opportunities for automation and streamline workflows. Collaborate with IT to implement system improvement opportunities as well as ongoing ERP maintenance.

- Cross-functional Collaboration - Collaborate effectively with other departments, including clinical, housing, and operations, to provide financial insight and support business objectives.

- Internal Controls - Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls to ensure integrity of financial data and prevent fraud.

- Financial Planning and Analysis - Collaborate with President & CEO and Senior Vice President of Programs and Services to develop and monitor the annual budget and financial forecasts. Provide insightful financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.

- Cash Management - In consultation with President & CEO optimize working capital management, including cash forecasting, bank reconciliations, and investment strategies.

- Tax Compliance Support - Ensure the timely preparation and filing of Community Connection and related entities' informational, corporate returns, and any other regulatory filings. Work with external advisors as needed.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

- Bachelor's degree in accounting with 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.

- 3+ years in a Controller or similar leadership role managing a team of financial professionals.

- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) strongly preferred.

- Experience in the not-for-profit industry and nonprofit-specific accounting standards (e.g., ASC 958).

- Experience of working with grants and contracts and revenue cycle (e.g., Medicaid fees for services, HUD, HHS).

- Strong understanding of accounting principles and US GAAP, ERP System (SAGE 300, Yardi) and financial reporting software (VENA).

- Experience with Single Audits (Uniform Guidance/OMB A-133).

- Excellent leadership, organizational, problem-solving and communication skills, ability to apply technical accounting research to business operations and people management skills.

- A proactive, results-driven approach with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
