THE ROLE: CONTROLLERReporting to the CFO, the Controller is responsible for managing the accounting, controls and compliance for over a half a billion in revenue organization (OLLY and Smarty). They will be developing our accounting team to achieve a high level of performance for Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Accounting, Cost Accounting, Tax, Treasury, Risk Management and Intercompany Accounting. The Controller will also be responsible for helping the CFO in strategy, execution and performance of building the accounting team into one function where required across multiple companies starting with SmartyPants.

The pay range for this position is $190,000-235,000 dependent on experience and location.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
As part of our team, your core responsibilities will be:
- Inspire and lead a team of 15+ responsible for accounting operations of the company including A/P, A/R, Cash Management, Inventory Accounting, Fixed Assets, GL, Payroll, Intercompany Accounting and Tax
- Coach and develop the accounting team to achieve performance targets and OKRs by monitoring performance and provide regular feedback and guidance
- Oversee and drive the accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual close activities, driving continuous improvements
- Ensure all internal accounting controls and policies are in place to be SOX compliant and internal corporate audit compliant.
- Ensures all accounting policies are consistent for all operating companies.
- Understand and document reporting needs, team up on operational issues, develop creative solutions in the absence of perfect systems and provide business guidance and insight through financial reporting
- Build relationships and partner with all departments to provide data and insights to help managers run the company and make effective decisions
- Work with the Senior FP+A Director to ensure coordination and timely publishing of metrics, annual budget and reforecast
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local corporate income, payroll and other applicable taxes and licenses
- Manage external and internal relationships with bankers, auditors, insurance brokers, accounting support team, tax and treasury

CAPABILITIES + SKILLS REQUIRED
- Proven working experience as a Controller, an Assistant Controller or Director of Accounting in a CPG company
- Demonstrated leadership of a high functioning accounting organization and track record of driving strong financial performance
- Expert knowledge of general ledger, consolidations, month end close process and GAAP
- Ability to adapt and thrive with change
- Adept at manipulating, analyzing and auditing large volumes of data, but also a skilled people manager
- Experience evolving processes, controls and systems to support a growth stage company
- Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Proficiency with accounting software, Microsoft D365 and/or Power BI knowledge a plus
- 10-15 years of overall combined accounting/controls/finance experience with 4+ years of people management experience
- Bachelor's and/or Masters' degree in finance or accounting, Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations preferred
