Description:
In this permanent, full-time role as Controller, you will lead the management of accounting operations. This includes producing financial reports, maintaining a system of accounting records, and implementing a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk and enhance the accuracy of the organization's reported financial results. You will guide the Finance team and support the VP of Finance and Corporate Services by providing confident advice and guidance across our organization.

You love operating in a digital environment, are proficient with MS Office (we use Office 365 - MS Teams, SharePoint), and are familiar with financial management applications and donation software. You enjoy learning and using new technology.
You have a Professional Accounting Designation (CPA or legacy), plus a minimum of ten to twelve years of related experience. This experience is complemented by a minimum of three years of leadership experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

The Day to Day;
- Direct all operational accounting functions including month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities and reconciliations.
- Prepare and distribute routine and ad hoc reports including management reports, grant reports, and department financial reports, in coordination with Portfolio Lead Finance.
- Oversee the semi-annual and annual audit process by compiling and providing financial information to auditors, answering audit questions, and directing team activities in support of the audit work.
- Prepare quarterly and year-end financial statements.
- Prepare and reviews returns, annual charitable status registration and submissions to the appropriate level of government.
- Plan, implement, and recommend process and operational improvements.
- Develop and manage the annual budget and forecasts, as well as the three year rolling plan, reporting variances to management with explanations and/or recommendations.
- Reconcile general ledger (GL) accounts to database systems for accuracy and compliance.
- Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Monitor daily accounting operations, including billing, AR, AP, payroll, and the GL, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness.
- Maintain and implement a documented system of accounting policies and procedures, ensuring compliance.
- Maintain the chart of accounts in an orderly accounting filing system, and a system of control over accounting transactions.
- Calculate and issues financial and operating metrics, preparing financial status and transaction reports on a timely basis.
- Lead preparation of management reporting (i.e. month-ends, cash flow, etc.) monthly, or as required.
- Direct team projects and work including planning resources and assigning and monitoring activity. Provide input and direction to team, assign responsibilities, assist with removing barriers to completing work, and monitors and reports on progress.
- Support executive leadership through the production of financial statements, management and partner/customer reporting, tax filings and the annual report.
