SUMMARY: The Controller is responsible for managing all accounting functions and ensuring that policies and processes are current. Duties include financial reporting and analysis, general ledger work, payroll, budget management, cash flow management, and compliance.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Manages all accounting functions including but not limited to general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and purchase approvals.
- Leads, mentors, and develops the finance team (Payroll Manager, AP Specialist, and Financial Analyst), fostering collaboration and a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Ensures the department has the necessary skills and resources to meet the organization's goals.
- Supervise monthly close process, including account reviews, reconciliations and preparation of financial reports.
- Analyzes, validates and presents monthly financial statements, such as balance sheets, income statements, cash-flow reports, budgets and variance analysis.
- Oversees accounts receivables to ensure customer balances are within approved payment terms, and credit risk is mitigated. Implements strategies for addressing cash flow issues, such as customer escalation, collecting retainage and managing change orders collections.
- Oversees accounts payable function including but not limited to compliance with expense reporting, capitalization policy, purchase order procedures, and managing credit applications and relationships. Communicates effectively with vendors to maintain good working relationships.
- Provides leadership team with proactive and weekly review of organization's financial status and progress.
- Manages cash flow and ensures adequate liquidity to support the company's operations and growth initiatives. Review and manage debt, lines of credit and financing terms with appropriate stakeholders.
- Oversees job costing budget reviews. Identifies and reports on jobs that did not meet their budgets on an exception basis.
- Reviews, evaluates and implements accounting policies, procedures, and controls and ensures the company complies with all financial regulations, tax laws and accounting standards.
- Analyzes financial performance and operational efficiency, identifying areas for improvement and cost optimization.
- Design and implement processes and technology that integrate sales, operations and finance
- Approves weekly check run/cash disbursement selections in alignment with existing and forecasted cash balances.
- Reviews vendor agreements and negotiates payment terms to maximize cash flow while preserving positive vendor relationships.
- Approves creation of vendor and customer accounts, provides necessary references and prepares required paperwork, as needed.
- Assess financial risk with new customers and suggests credit limits. Monitors and reports on new and existing customer payment performance, suggests revisions to customer credit limits, as needed.
- Assists with annual budget preparation and periodic reforecasting, reviews budget proposals, and prepares necessary supporting documentation and justification for proposed budgets.
- Leads efforts to ensure the company maintains proper insurance coverage and adherence to financial regulations.
- Develops and implements strategies to accurately and efficiently satisfy prevailing wage audit requirements.
- Maintains external relationships with banks and insurance partners.
- Coordinates annual independent review by Premise Inc.'s CPA firm, and preparation of annual tax documents, prepares required paperwork and analysis.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- In addition to the above, other required qualificationsfor this role are:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field.
- 7-10 years of related leadership experience.
- 3-5 years of experience as a controller at a construction firm, preferably a mechanical, electrical, or specialty subcontracting firm with a heavy emphasis on self-perform work.
- Knowledge of forecasting, budgeting, cash flow, and financial reports.
- Strong understanding of financial aspects of the construction industry including WIP, revenue recognition, and regulatory compliance.
- In-depth understanding of the nuances involved with prevailing wage projects, the associated compliance challenges, and best practices for managing them.
- Proficient in financial software and ERP systems (experience with Procore and Foundation Software preferred).
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage multiple priorities and workflow.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to communicate effectively, clearly, and succinctly through spoken and written forms with peers, management, and customers. Able to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds
- Strong Excel skills
