Job Title: Controller

Position's Role Summary:

The Controller is responsible for the accounting and financial data for NTBHA (North Texas Behavioral Health Authority) as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Work is performed under the direction of the CFO. The Controller directs, manages, and reports the results of the financial operation for NTBHA's medical organization. This includes the overall accounting activities and compliance by NTBHA to assure effective control of all assets, liabilities and other financial activities.

Summary of Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • This position is responsible for providing accurate and timely financial reporting for executive management and third parties. This includes monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial statements, performance metrics and other requested financial information used by management.
  • Supervises accounting staff to ensure excellent customer service. Provides projections for financial condition and performance under various scenarios to assist management in decision making.
  • Responsible for development and preparation of the annual budget for all programs and departments. Works with the CFO to ensure budget is consistent with the strategic plan and overall company objectives.
  • Assists the CFO in the management of the annual audits.
  • Supervises the upgrade of accounting related systems and procedures to improve operational efficiencies while maintaining or improving service.
  • Assist in the development and continual enhancement of financial systems, including policies, procedures, practices, and information systems regarding grants recording and compliance.
  • Assist the CFO in maintaining compliance with all financial reporting, federal and state regulations, generally accepted accounting standards and governmental accounting standards as promulgated by FASB, as well as accounting policies and procedures established by NTBHA's Board.
  • Assist the CFO in establishing and maintaining effective internal controls over NTBHA's financial operations that provide reasonable assurance that the organization's financial reporting is reliable and in compliance with laws, regulations and policies.
  • Stays current on regulatory and legislative changes that may affect NTBHA.
  • Reviews all Grant Reports (monthly/quarterly/annually) required for Mental Health Federal, State, and Local Grants and contracts. Assures reports are filed timely and accurately.
  • Reviews all bank account reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations monthly. Attests to compliance with NTBHA's accounting policies.
  • Assists in preparing monthly Cash Flow Forecasts and Cash Flow Projections.
  • Works with Human Resource Director to process and record payroll.
  • Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Duties and projects may be assigned or changed to meet business needs.

Education, Training and Experience (including licensure and certification:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting / Finance from an AACSB-accredited school of business. MBA Preferred
  • CPA certification Required.
  • Five to seven years' professional accounting experience. A minimum of 3 years' staff management experience is required. Healthcare Experience required
  • Experience with ERP accounting software, Medical Services, and / or governmental accounting and federal grants preferred.

Required Skills and Abilities:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and ability to work with mid-market accounting packages - advanced MS Excel user preferred. Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations. Blackbaud experience a plus.

Strong analytical skills to review financial reports must be detail oriented and provide accurate financial information.

Excellent time management, organizational and problem-solving skills.

Maintain a team-oriented environment and delegate effectively.

Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines and complete tasks on time. Independent judgment and the ability to work with little supervision are necessary.

Strong communication skills, including presentation and written communication skills

Adapt quickly to a rapidly changing environment
