Description:
The Megapack Site Controls team is looking for a passionate engineer to help Tesla facilitate the world's transition to sustainable energy. Our team is responsible for dynamics modeling, algorithm design, and simulation for Tesla Energy's industrial products and integration with 3rd party devices. Our control system is a foundational building block for microgrids, and utility-scale power plants based on Megapacks, solar, and wind technologies. Our mission is to empower a seamless energy transition by delivering best-in-class power control systems.
As a Controls Engineer on our team, you will lead the integration of distributed energy resources (DERs) such as solar inverters and genset controllers into our controls stack. You will work across multiple platforms, including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), standalone test benches and our microgrid test platform, to ensure tight integration and high system performance.
Our controls stack includes both industry-standard and custom-built software and hardware spanning embedded and server-side systems. Flexibility, an ability to understand and contribute to a diverse set of codebases and schematics, an eagerness to collaborate with stakeholders, and strong engineering leadership are key strengths we expect you to bring to the table.

As a Controls Engineer on our team, you will lead the integration of distributed energy resources (DERs) such as solar inverters and genset controllers into our controls stack. Responsibilities
- Procure third-party inverters, genset controllers, meters, protection relays and other power system control devices
- Install and integrate these devices into both real world and HIL test setups
- Configure control devices and benchmark their performance against Tesla's requirements
- Write and test interface drivers to enable Tesla's Site Controller to communicate with DERs (Golang/Modbus)
- Document commissioning procedures to help customers install, configure, and integrate these devices with their Megapack and Tesla Site Controls system
- Build relationships with engineering contacts at each vendor and help launch an onboarding program for new DERs
Requirements
- Strong grasp of electrical engineering fundamentals
- Proficiency with one of the following programming languages: Python, Golang, Rust
- Experience drafting technical documentation and training materials
- Familiarity with the physical setup and configuration of power system devices including inverters, genset controllers, relays or meters
- Familiarity with HIL tools such as Typhoon, OPAL-RT, dSPACE, etc.
- Ability to communicate findings in a concise & clear manner and ability to work cross functionally with engineering, business development, and deployment personnel

$111,200 - $200,160/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
