Primary Function:

The Controls Engineer is responsible for working closely with the Production, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to implement tactical and strategic improvements throughout the organization. This position will coordinate and implement improvements with these teams to efficiently produce high quality water heaters.

Responsibilities:

General:
  • Partner with Maintenance, Manufacturing Engineering, Technicians and Operations to ensure effective communication on plant equipment issues to optimize uptime.
  • Work with production supervisors, engineers, and outside contractors to maximize plant efficiencies and machine up-time based on root cause investigation.
  • Support continuous improvement in efficiencies in machine controls key processes.
  • Provided expertise in terms of Controls Engineering, standardization, and commonization of equipment design.


Preventive and Predictive:
  • Review machine safety programming integrity and adherence to standards.
  • Responsible for technical accuracy of electrical drawings and equipment programs.
  • Coordinate and perform audits to ensure proper execution of program storage and backup systems.
  • Evaluate the performance of hardware on equipment and responses to equipment failures.
  • Lead efforts to remove gaps in equipment design standards.
  • Develop programming and HMI standards to be utilized throughout the facility.
  • Updating, organizing and maintaining controls documentation.

Collect and Utilize Metrics/Data to Improve Equipment
  • Utilizes metrics/data to evaluate and improve equipment processes.
  • Ensures appropriate monitoring to assess the health and functionality of assets.
  • Develop and improve data collection standards.
  • Makes specific equipment recommendations to improve machinery performance, maintainability, and reliability.

Supports Equipment Launch and Upgrades
  • Designing, developing and improving safety standards for equipment.
  • Designing and troubleshooting of electrical controls systems.
  • Designing, constructing, integrating, installing, successful launch and continuous improvement of manufacturing equipment and tools.
  • Providing technical directions to and oversight of outside vendor sources.
  • Supporting equipment build/runoff & buyoff process.
  • Develops equipment modification plans based on failure data, performance feedback, and OEM design modifications.
  • Creates plans to standardize parts across like machines considering specific component performance and maintainability.
  • Coordinate with maintenance, production, and engineering for any major changes to equipment.
  • Partner with applicable team members to ensure new equipment is on-boarded successfully from a maintenance, operations perspective.

Educational and Technical Requirements include:
  • Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years' Controls Engineering experience, or automation/controls troubleshooting for industrial machinery.
  • AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical knowledge required
  • Strong Allen Bradley or Siemens' Step 7 Controls System Background, PLC, HMI, Vision and Network configuration.
  • Experience with Fanuc Robot, Servo Motors, VFD drive and motion control.
  • Experience with Cognex / Keyence vision systems, Welding controls, and Laser welding preferred
