Position Title: Controls Engineering Manager
Overview: The Controls Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing the design, development, installation, and maintenance of automated systems and control systems for manufacturing or operational processes. This role combines technical expertise in control systems engineering with leadership responsibilities to guide a team of engineers and ensure project success.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership and Management:
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of controls engineers.
Assign tasks, set performance goals, and conduct performance reviews.
Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Project Management:
Oversee the design, development, and implementation of control systems projects.
Collaborate with stakeholders to define project requirements, timelines, and budgets.
Monitor progress and ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope.
Technical Expertise:
Develop and optimize PLC, HMI, and SCADA programming.
Integrate and troubleshoot control systems, including sensors, actuators, and communication networks.
Maintain knowledge of industry standards (e.g., UL, IEC, NFPA).
Implement and improve system reliability and efficiency.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with engineering, product management, and other departments to ensure alignment of control systems with business goals.
Provide technical support and training to other teams.
Compliance and Safety:
Ensure that all control systems adhere to safety regulations and standards.
Identify and mitigate risks associated with automated systems.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain detailed documentation of control systems designs, updates, and troubleshooting procedures.
Provide regular reports on project status, team performance, and system reliability.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in controls engineering or equivalent industry experience, with 2+ years in a leadership role.
Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen Bradley, Siemens), HMI/SCADA systems, and industrial communication protocols.
Strong understanding of robotics, servo systems, and process automation.
Experience with project management tools and methodologies.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with Industry 4.0 technologies and IoT integration.
Certification in project management (e.g., PMP).
Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma practices.
Work Environment:
Combination of office and manufacturing/industrial settings.
May require occasional travel to customer sites or vendors.
