There is a regular full-time opening for a Converting Manager.

This is a salary position.

Summary
  • The Converting Manager will directly manage the converting / waxing department and the operating crews to optimize production and cost control, meet safety goals, assure that production meets the established quality standards and provide for future development of employees and facilities.

Converting Manager Job Duties

Oversee day to day operations to achieve quality production goals on machines and manage all aspects of machines.
  • Lead & direct the activities of the hourly operators.
  • Ensure that day to day maintenance activities are coordinated and performed.
  • Assist with establishing operating parameters for equipment to ensure consistency and efficiency, and to improve equipment uptime and production.
  • Assist in developing job-specific training program. Provide necessary tools and training for all area employees to ensure success.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues; and communicate each employee's job accountability.
  • Work with scheduling to maximize machine efficiency.
  • Actively manage trial and product development.
  • Responsible for day-to-day safety and actively lead/assist with all area safety efforts.
  • Implement proactive measures to reduce injury risk to employees
  • Ensure that all employees are trained yearly on all required Occupational Safety and Health Administration safety training and that all safety guidelines are followed.
  • Work closely with crews and Quality Department to make sure products produced meet all quality specifications.
  • Help develop, implement, and maintain Policies and Procedures that align with SQF requirements to maintain SQF certification. These include GMP, Food Defense, HACCP, and Food Safety.
  • Ensure that all area employees understand customer needs and are focused on meeting them.
  • Assist with Customer Service, Sales, and Customer Solutions groups to better service our customers.
  • Participate in all complaint resolutions and develop action plan implementation for defect elimination.
  • Ensure that all employees understand and are trained in quality attributes and their roles in quality testing.
  • Visit customers as needed: support their operations, discuss needs, and resolve issues.
  • Trained in HACCP principles
  • Conduct Risk Assessments as identified or required by the HACCP Plan.
  • Carry out the tasks essential to the effective implementation of the HACCP based principles.
  • Determine and maintain controls necessary to ensure food safety as require
  • Work with Mill Manager to establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track the progress and impact of operational excellence initiatives, adjusting strategies as necessary.
  • Develop and schedule all area operational training to improve position-specific skills and knowledge.
  • Develop technical skills in the waxing area.
  • Direct all efforts in educating area employees on their role in improving area operational reliability.
  • Promote and support employee involvement.
  • Provide system monitoring to ensure product quality and ensure that all employees are trained at their use.

Experience / Qualifications
  • Four-year degree in engineering, paper science, related technical field or equivalent years of experience doing the job is required.
  • Minimum 5 years in a process oriented MFG environment is required; paper converting or waxing experience is desired.
  • Minimum 3 years of related supervisory experience required.
  • A track record of proven performance/consistently meeting objectives, and leading or supporting safety programs is a must.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word and Excel at an intermediate level.
  • Previous experience with continuous improvement.

  • Frequent exposure to mill environment-hot, dusty, humid, noisy
  • Occasional long workdays and on-call
  • Some travel required
