JOB SUMMARY
The Coordinator I HR Talent Transportation plays a vital role in supporting the human capital needs of the Houston ISD Transportation Department. As part of a high-performing Talent team, this position ensures seamless coordination of HR functions specific to transportation personnel, including recruitment, onboarding, compliance, and workforce planning. The Coordinator I helps sustain smooth departmental operations through proactive administrative support, strong communication, and efficient systems management. This role is essential in enabling transportation leaders and frontline staff to focus on safe, reliable student transportation aligned with HISD's strategic goals.
This position requires exceptional organizational skills, responsiveness, and a commitment to operational excellence in service of HISD's vision to become the first large urban district to significantly narrow achievement gaps and prepare students for a Year 2035 world.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide administrative and logistical HR support for the Transportation Division, including coordinating hiring processes, onboarding new bus drivers and support staff, and maintaining employee records in compliance with district and state requirements.
2. Support workforce management by assisting with the scheduling and deployment of transportation staff in alignment with daily route needs, special assignments, and operational demands.
3. Coordinate with the HR Talent Acquisition team to develop and schedule recruitment initiatives tailored to transportation needs, such as job fairs, CDL training events, and targeted outreach for drivers and mechanics.
4. Track transportation employee certifications (CDL, medical clearances, safety training, etc.), notify staff of expiration, and ensure timely renewals to maintain compliance with state and district regulations.
5. Collaborate with HR and Transportation leadership to analyze staffing data and trends, generate reports, and support workforce planning and optimization initiatives.
6. Maintain secure, accurate, and organized personnel files, including documentation related to hiring, background checks, evaluations, and discipline specific to transportation employees.
7. Facilitate timely and professional communication between HR, transportation leadership, employees, and other departments to address HR-related concerns and promote a culture of service and accountability.
8. Manage logistics for transportation-related meetings, orientations, and training sessions, including preparing materials, documenting discussions, and following up on action items.

9. Assist in developing and distributing clear, transportation-focused communications, presentations, and reports aligned with HISD's transparency and performance standards.
10. Monitor compliance with safety training, attendance, and performance documentation for transportation staff, helping ensure alignment with district expectations and state mandates.
11. Support the execution and tracking of transportation-focused surveys, assessments, and feedback tools that inform HR strategies and improve operational outcomes.
12. Maintain office functions such as inventory tracking, supply procurement, and system organization to ensure a productive and responsive HR environment within the Transportation Division.
13. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Business, Public Administration, Management or related field preferred.

Acts as a trusted advisor and becomes involved in the customer's decision-making process including presenting alternatives and information and applying persuasion and negotiation skills in the resolution of problems. Monitors customer service standards.
