License and Certification Qualifications: Valid Georgia Class C Driver's License required. Completion of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) school safety related courses preferred.
Education Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in related field required.
Experience Qualifications: Five years of progressively responsible experience in law enforcement, school safety, or a related field required.
Skills Qualifications: Knowledge of school safety, emergency management, and emergency preparation; ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously; strong written and oral communication skills; ability to work independently, assume responsibility, display initiative, and exercise sound judgment; ability to functionally coordinate services between schools and emergency service providers and agencies; ability to analyze existing processes and identify areas for improvement; and ability to act as a representative of Gwinnett County Public Schools.
Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for performing the coordination of school district safety programs, site based emergency response programs, school based educational programs, and school crisis response programs with the community and emergency service providers for the Department of Safety and Security.
1. Provide support, resources, materials, and training opportunities to local schools and all central office departments regarding issues related to school safety protocol and procedures
2. Provide staff support to the Gwinnett County Schools Police Department.
3. Conduct safety reviews for all local schools and central office departments.
4. Serve as the liaison between the district and emergency personnel, law enforcement, and other community agencies concerning issues related to school safety
5. Distribute copies of school safety and emergency response plans to all school service emergency providers on an annual basis
6.. Coordinate and develop budgets for school safety and emergency response plans
7. Perform yearly system-wide safety review in consultation with community emergency service providers for the Department of Safety and Security.
8. Represent Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) at local, state, and national level conferences regarding school safety, emergency response, and crisis management best practices.
9. Assist in the development and management of safety grant opportunities.
10. Facilitate safety exercises with school based emergency teams, Gwinnett County Public School Police Department, and/or community emergency service providers ensuring compliance with the Department of Homeland Security standards.
