Job Summary:

The Co-Packer Manager is responsible for managing relationships with third-party co-packers to ensure efficient, high-quality, and cost-effective meat processing and packaging. This role includes coordinating production schedules, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and managing the logistical aspects of product movement.

Key Responsibilities:

Production Management
  • Coordinate Production Schedules: Work with co-packers to develop and maintain production schedules to meet company demands and customer orders.
  • Monitor Performance: Track production metrics, including output, quality, and efficiency, to ensure co-packers meet performance standards.
  • Troubleshoot Issues: Address production problems promptly to minimize downtime and ensure product quality.

Quality Assurance
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure all co-packing activities comply with industry regulations, company standards, and food safety guidelines.
  • Conduct Audits: Perform regular audits of co-packing facilities to verify adherence to quality and safety standards.
  • Implement Improvements: Work with co-packers to implement process improvements and corrective actions when quality issues arise.

Relationship Management
  • Vendor Management: Maintain strong working relationships with co-packing partners, negotiating contracts, terms, and conditions.
  • Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact between the company and co-packers, facilitating clear and effective communication.
  • Conflict Resolution: Address and resolve any conflicts or issues that arise with co-packers.

Logistics and Inventory
  • Coordinate Logistics: Manage the logistics of transporting products to and from co-packing facilities, ensuring timely delivery and receipt.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels to ensure sufficient raw materials and finished products are available to meet production needs.

Financial Management
  • Cost Control: Monitor and control costs associated with co-packing, seeking opportunities to reduce expenses without compromising quality.
  • Budgeting: Assist in the preparation and management of the co-packing budget.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree: In related field, but not necessary.
  • Experience: 5+ years of plant experience in the meat industry or food processing is preferred, with at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role.

Skills and Competencies
  • Strong Knowledge: Understanding of meat processing, food safety regulations, and quality control.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and manage teams effectively.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Negotiation Skills: Ability to negotiate contracts and manage vendor relationships.

Working Conditions:
  • Travel: Ability to travel to co-packing facilities as needed.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a production environment, which may involve exposure to cold temperatures and handling raw meat products.
