The Family Practice and Specialty Service Line Director works on site and reports to the Chief Operating Officer. In close collaboration with clinical leaders, the Family Practice and Specialty Service Line Director oversees the strategic planning, development, and implementation of the Family Practice and Specialty services at Salud Para La Gente. They provide strategic and operational leadership by ensuring high-quality patient care, service line growth, and efficient resource utilization. They are responsible for the overall management, growth, and development of the service line, ensuring high standards of patient care and satisfaction.

Salud Para La Gente (Salud) provides high quality, comprehensive and cost-effective medical, dental, behavioral health, optometry and other services to underserved, low-income communities in the Monterey Bay area, including Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties. Salud began in Watsonville in 1978 as a storefront free clinic, and became a FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Center) in1992. With 4 health center sites, satellite and school-based health centers and over 400 employees, we provide high quality services to patients of all ages. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops and implements the strategic plan for Family Practice and Specialty services in collaboration with other department leaders
- Oversees the daily operations of the Family Practice and Specialty service line
- Supports or leads other service lines and other service lines leaders, as needed.
- Ensures adequate clinic resources, staffing, flow, and support to provide excellent patient care.
- Collaborates with physicians and staff to ensure high-quality patient care; monitors the quality of care provided and implements improvement measures as necessary
- Ensures program compliance with internal and external regulations; supports audits by external entities. Adheres to regulations and requirements, including Central California Alliance for Health, Medi-Cal, California Department of Public Health, Santa Cruz County Public Health Department, , and Salud Para La Gente's Policies and Procedures, etc..
- Oversees and monitors the financial management of resources, including budgeting and staffing, for the Family Practice and Specialty departments
- Effectively collaborates with physician leaders, providers and other healthcare professionals to ensure effective and efficient patient care
- Analyzes performance data and makes informed decisions to enhance service delivery
- Develops and maintains professional relationships with key stakeholders, including physicians, nurses, and administrators
- Participates in hiring, training, and performance evaluations and improvement plans of Family Practice and Specialty staff
- Understands union processes and works collaboratively and effectively with union staff
- Stays abreast of the latest advancements in health care and integrates them into service line planning
- Responds to patient complaints and incident reports. Documents, researches, and resolves incidents. Addresses patient complaints and issues professionally and compassionately
- Coordinates with Communications and Funding teams to promote Family Practice and Specialty services
- Consistently adheres to and/or exceeds SPLG's communication guidelines and expectations with patients, peers, and supervisors.
- Other duties, as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Standing, walking, sitting, typing, reaching, bending, moving and/or lifting up to 50 pounds.
Requirements
- Bachelor's and Master's degree strongly preferred.
- Proven experience and track record in a leadership role in a healthcare setting; strong leadership and team management skills; strong understanding of medium to large-scale health care operations
- Previous experience directly managing and being an accountable leader for a large number of staff in a healthcare department
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations and medical terminologies
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent skills in employee conflict management and resolution
- Experience working in a union environment
- Experience successfully working in partnership with a physician leader
- Proficient in healthcare management systems and Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to multitask and make decisions in a fast-paced environment
- Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
- Possession of a valid CA Driver's license and insurance.
