About the Position

The Corporate Controller is highly skilled with broad accounting experience, strong business acumen, and effective communication and analytical skills. The Corporate Controller will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer, and other leaders, ensuring that systems and processes are designed to produce accurate, timely, and complete financial information to be used by executives, investors, and lenders.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for overseeing the accounting department's monthly closing procedures; organizing staff workflows, monitoring team progress according to deadlines, and reviewing completeness and quality of the staff accounting work.
  • Responsible for oversight of annual audit activities with external auditors, including PBCs, information requests, tax provisions and draft financial statements.
  • Oversee credit and collection department activities, with consideration of offshore resources.
  • Manage treasury related activities including cash management, cash applications, and accounts payable functions.
  • Provides leadership in process automation and efficiency improvement efforts. Efforts may include partnering with IT on the design and maintenance of proprietary applications and evaluation/maintenance of purchased software solutions as well as the off shoring of certain resources.
  • Responsible for coordinating all departmental tax payment and compliance activities, including filing and payment of state corporate income taxes, sales & use taxes, property taxes, and other operating taxes.
  • Develops staff through coaching and mentoring activities, instills accountability through performance measurement in the context of defined goals and objectives. Executes effective performance redirection when needed.
  • Responsible for coordinating ad-hoc projects and activities as needed or as requested by the CFO.
  • Effectively communicates with co-workers, management, and other stakeholders in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, MBA or CPA preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating monthly closing activities for a multiple-entity affiliated group using an integrated accounting system.
  • Credit and collections and treasury management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing technical skills to introduce process efficiencies to accounting related activities.


Preferred Attributes/Accomplishments
  • Master's Degree in a finance/accounting discipline.
  • Active CPA certification
  • Demonstrated experience participating in efforts to enhance efficiency and improve process automation relevant to accounts payable processing and cash application.
  • Direct experience in the trucking or other transportation services industries (freight brokerage, third-party logistics)
  • Acquisition experience
