Brief Job Description:

Master Investigation Supervisors are responsible for mentoring new supervisors, assisting in areas of the states with supervisor vacancies, and assisting in special projects. Master Investigation Supervisor will supervise staff and manage unit operations to achieve project goals and objectives for services delivered by monitoring caseloads, consulting with staff on case issues, approving leave, evaluating performance and holding unit meetings. Preforms advanced consultative protective services work in Child Protective Investigations. Work involves providing consultation and assistance to staff and supervisors regarding complex protective services case and issues serving as peer supervisor mentor. Serves as a peer supervisor for supervisors who are in their first three - six months of supervision. Will guide supervisors in making appropriate case decisions and follow up; will provide input and guidance on case decisions ensuring best practice principals are followed. This position will make decisions on cases and issues that promote and demonstrate appropriate respect for cultural diversity. Master Investigation Supervisor will assist in designing and implementing program/unit expectations and procedures. Will also help in supervisor development as it relates to risk and safety assessments to achieve and enhance quality performance of Investigations and staff. Travel = 50 percent of time This position may be housed in any Region.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs):
Manages Master Investigator caseworkers who travel across the state to assist with investigations.
Plans and manages unit operations to achieve project goals and objectives for services delivered by monitoring budgets and caseloads, consulting with staff on case issues, approving leave, and holding unit meetings.
Selects, manages, and develops staff through review of performance data, conferences, training, and performance appraisal.
Interprets program policy and procedures to unit staff, other agency staff, and the general public.
Evaluates unit performance through case readings, computer reports, and observation of unit operations to ensure unit compliance with policy, procedure, and service control requirements.
Develops and maintains effective working relationships between Child Protective Investigation staff and law enforcement officials, judicial officials, legal resources, medical professionals, and other community resources.
Interprets regional and county data relating to workloads, FTE's and other factors that correlate to MI deployments.
Manages and develops staff through training, field visits with staff, review of data warehouse reports, individual conferences, unit meetings and review of IMPACT documentation.
Performs other duties as assigned and required to maintain unit operations.
Promotes and demonstrates appropriate respect for cultural diversity among coworkers and all work-related contacts.
Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave policy.

Initial Screening Criteria:
Child Protective Services Supervisor I: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, plus eighteen months of full-time experience in Child Protective Services* or child placement services** in a public social services agency OR Currently employed as a Child Protective Services Supervisor I in Family and Protective Services. OR previously employed as a Child Protective Services Supervisor I in Family and Protective Services.
Child Protective Services Supervisor II: Completion of Phase I Child Protective Services Specialist Certification and completion of the Child Protective Services Supervisor Certification OR Currently employed as a Child Protective Services Supervisor II in Family and Protective Services OR Currently employed in a Family and Protective Services management position in the Child Protective Services program at a level above Child Protective Services Supervisor AND prior experience as Child Protective Services Supervisor in Family and Protective Services OR previously employed as a Child Protective Services Supervisor II.

*Child Protective Investigation is professional social work where primary duties are providing social casework services to abused, neglected, or exploited children and their families; or in recruiting, studying, and certifying foster and adoptive homes.

**A Child placement service is the decision-making process around placing and monitoring children in licensed 24-hour childcare facilities and in adoptive placement in compliance with state and federal regulations.

Additional Information:

Investigations: The role of an investigative supervisor is a fast-paced, high energy position requiring daily assessment and decision-making of child safety issues. One must possess the initiative to independently organize and manage numerous tasks associated with the position. This position has daily contact with staff and stakeholders regarding case decisions that frequently requires availability outside the hours of 8 - 5. This position is responsible for reading numerous cases and screening intakes on a daily basis to determine child safety. This position may be housed in any Region.
