Scope of responsibilities and accountability:

Provides all the below and supervises peers for same quality.
  • Practices within the scope for a CRNA that are regulated by state boards regarding the nurse anesthetist.
  • Reviews and demonstrates knowledge of all approved center policies and procedures for patient care.
  • Provides complete documentation in all areas of care.
  • Maintains positive and respectful working relationships with physicians, manager, and peers.
  • Knowledge of use and maintains equipment needed for patient safety within the endoscopy center.
  • Completes in-service of emergency procedures and evacuation plans.
  • Maintains BLS and ACLS.
  • Provide proof of required Continuing Medical Education Units as well as completing required in-services for staff to maintain accreditation.
  • Experience in the use of current anesthesia techniques and agents.
  • Sound judgment and response to emergency situations whether actual or drills.
  • Along with the RN, maintains record and count of all anesthetic medications prior to, and at the end of each shift.
  • Reports directly to Director of Nursing.

Major activities and essential job functions1:
  • Supports the mission and goals of the organization as a whole.
  • Responsible for direct patient care: assess the physical and psychosocial status of patients

through review of data, direct observation, vital sign monitoring and/or consultation with other health care providers to provide optimal care pre-procedure, during procedure and for post-procedure.
  • Responsible for protecting confidential and/or privileged information according to Center policy.
  • Promotes and supports patient/family-centered care.
  • Ability to assess and care for adult patients who are considered to be healthy as well of those who have comorbidities.
  • Responsible to order needed CLIA waved test prior to or after anesthesia. (ex: pregnancy or glucose testing)
  • Maintains a safe environment for the patient receiving anesthesia by assessing, monitoring, and evaluating condition of the patient pre-procedure, during the procedure and when transferring the patient to recovery.
  • Provides report to the recovery nurse, and if needed, performs, and documents any post procedure visit to evaluate for complications related to receiving anesthesia.
  • Responsible for maintaining anesthesia cart equipment and meds. Notifying Nurse Manager of needed meds or equipment whether though use or expiration.
  • Have the knowledge to recognize and act on any potential or actual abnormal patient response to anesthesia.
  • Documentation: maintains accurate and complete medical records which reflect the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care along with any other pertinent information related to the endoscopic procedure.
  • Patient Education: identifies educational needs of patients and/of families related to understanding of anesthesia, its risks and benefits as well as obtaining an informed consent.
  • Promotes compliance with treatment plan by answering questions and discussing patient's and/or families' concerns.
  • Required to have language skills for high-level written and interpersonal communication in American English.
  • Participates in orientation of newly hired CRNA employees and function as a preceptor.
  • Adheres to infection control principles and applies universal precautions according to CDC regulations and center standards.
  • Participates in peer review for quality of anesthesia care by the anesthesia staff.
  • Supportive of Risk Management by participating in programs directed to patient and employee safety.
  • Objectively evaluate any grievances or processes that can improve on patient care, relaying these to the Director of Nursing.
  • Oversees CRNA staff schedule, PTO and CME requests and coordinates with Director of Nursing
  • Participates in CRNA on boarding and annual evaluations
  • Issues counseling as needed to CRNA's.
  • Participate in committees for quality improvement.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an approved program of American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (ANNA) with current license to practice as a CRNA in the state of Ohio.
  • American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (ANNA) certification required.
  • Effective communication and listening skills.
  • Effective understanding and use of the English language.
  • Must be flexible with working schedule and have ability to work occasional overtime.
  • Flexibility to travel to all center locations following the schedule approved by the Director of Nursing
  • Ability to use modern business communication, and office systems.

Regulatory Requirements/Risks/Exposures:
  • Works within the area of chemicals including, but not limited to, chlorine bleach, glutaraldehyde and fomalin
  • Physical demand requirements meet those defined as HEAVY work, exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, 25-50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 1-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Maintain CEUs for licensure
  • Orient to new procedures and equipment
  • Responsible for maintaining current BCLS and ACLS.
  • Maintain annual fire safety/general safety training
  • Maintain annual HIPAA training
  • Maintain annual OSHA Blood-borne Pathogen
  • Maintain annual PPD skin test or TB Screening Form
  • Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement Program
